DAB radio with decent bass

Apologies if this is the wrong forum....

I am looking for a DAB radio with a decent amount of bass, preferably with a larger speaker.
After reading good reviews I just tried a Pure Evoke 2S....and found it to be boomy and mushy so it was returned.
My 45 year old Grundig Concert Boy 1100 still sounds superb - aided by a 7" speaker, the bass is crisp and plentiful, although nowhere near as loud (not needed), the sound is leagues ahead of the Evoke.....and as I said it is 45 years old !!!

Am I really expecting too much for a similar replacement DAB radio ?

Most DAB radios are quite small which does not equate to good bass. A DAB tuner or radio with line out connected to an external amp and speakers is what you need.

As an aside make sure anything you buy is DAB+ capable. DAB+ is coming soon.

Comparing a small radio with a large one is always going to end badly

You might try looking at Roberts Radio, they do some pretty decent sounding sound systems (DAB/FM/WiFi etc.), but they aren't cheap.

There's also Bose as well - even less cheap.

But anything small is going to sound pretty crap, as there's no space for a decent speaker.

Thanks for the prompt replies....Bose...hmmm if money were no object....but unfortunately it is !
I had considered Roberts - I seem to recall they used to have good tone & bass, as you say they're not cheap - but neither was the Grundy all those years ago - testament is that it still works perfectly and sounds so good.
I don't want a separate amp & speakers - already have that setup - I want a portable albeit a large one.
I can't believe how disappointed I was with the Evoke though....

This Roberts has good bass, OP. Separate bass and treble controls and a Which? Best Buy. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-RD21...ds=roberts+dab but buy from John Lewis with a 2 year guarantee included: http://www.johnlewis.com/roberts-eco...=c&tmcampid=73

No one suggested that, have you looked at the Roberts and Bose websites? - they both do a range of large mains 'portables', with decent bass response.

This was the sort of thing I'm talking about:
