I am soooo looking forward to it. Create a sim looks very good as I have watched it on YouTube.

I can't understand no toddlers in it though, also, why is the Europe getting it on September 4th and we get it on 5th?

This game is basically SimCity fiasco all over again. So far:

No Create-A-Style (added in vanilla TS3)
No Toddler life stage (added in vanilla TS2)
No pools (there since vanilla TS1)
No 64-bit client (not a "removal", but a complete lack of future proofing)
No open world (added in vanilla TS3), small districts instead
Heavily nerfed story progression (added in vanilla TS3)
Loading times back: at least 30 seconds
No terrain editing
No Store lots (added in Vanilla TS2)
No Work lots (added in Vanilla TS3)
No School lots (added in Vanilla TS3)

I AM looking forward to going back to having a simple game to play without hundreds of options all thrown at me at once. I wasn't able to follow TS3 from the very beginning and it threw me off all the way through; I was never able to get 100% into it because I hadn't explored the base game in it's entirety before I went and shoved three expansions on top. It was just too much at once.

I am not looking forward to the lack of options which have been there for years. No toddlers? Ridiculous. I won't preorder until I've seen a proper gameplay demo.

Yeah I doubt I'm going to switch to TS4. It seems like they've tried to simplify things but have managed to dismantle a lot of key features.

Cynically I can see them being added in Expansion Packs.

I liked the sims 3 but no matter how many times I started a fresh game from scratch it always stopped working for me.

None of the "negatives" are enough to put me off buying tbh. Toddlers are my least favourite age to play, I never really used create a style or pools that much and no school/work lots doesn't really bother me as they were just rabbit holes anyway, I much preferred the whole walking off the lot thing from Sims 2. That said I do understand why it bothers people, and they haven't really done a good job of explaining their decisions.

Not sure about the way the worlds work though but it all depends on the way it plays, if the loading screens are as short as they say and it does increase the community feel then I'm all for no open world. Sometimes the amount of in-game time it took to drive somewhere was ridiculous so I won't miss that. One thing that really bothers me though is the lack of story progression, it seems non-controlled sims just age and that's it, they can't have children etc. Not that Sims 3's ever worked like it should anyway.

There a lot of positives though, the emotions, the (apparently) improved interactions and everything we've been told about that side of things seem to be beneficiary to the way I play the game. I like to set different sims up and see how they react to each other without forcing too much interaction, but Sims 3 hasn't really allowed me to do that with its repetitive, and rather stilted, gameplay, especially when it comes to the way sims interact.

As for Create a Sim, all the gameplay videos of the demo look really good, there seems to be a good choice of colour options for hair/skin/clothes, so much so that I probably won't miss the colour wheel. The eyes look a little flat though, and weirdly I will miss the body hair as I'd gotten so used to adding it to my (male) sims, but other than that I can't wait to play it.

I have to say, one of my biggest regrets is that I sold all my TS2 games. I crave OFB so much. TS3 just isn't really much fun tbh, no matter how much money I throw at it.

I'm not happy about the lack of toddlers but I'm okay with the loading screens provided that they deliver in giving us lots which actually fill with Sims. TS3 is just one huge EMPTY open world. I'm glad they're focusing once again on the Sims and the gameplay itself.

I agree, I do think they are trying to recreate the Sims 2 feel with Sims 4, a lot of the moves they've made seem to be to distance it from Sims 3, which is why I remain open minded about it.

Yes, that's certainly the impression I get from what we know so far. Although, a lot of the features in TS4 are a direct result of the game being initially created with online in mind. It makes me wonder, if TS4 had been set up as an offline game from the very beginning, would we still have the limits we have on the world and the loading screens? Hmm...

If taking the game back towards TS2 means that we can have features such as business put back in (I think a lot of the reasons given by the Gurus for not having full blown OFB style game play in TS3 is because of the way the open world works) then I'm all for it.

I can't believe they are replacing Toddlers and Swimming Pools with Cupcake Machines! EA has made a mistake there but I am looking forward to the game and will still buy it.

I'm not bothered about Open World but will be sad if there isn't story progression.

There is no story progression. You can choose to have other households age up however they will not create new Sims; those in the household will simply age up and die. The only way to keep the family alive is to jump in from time to time and help them along the way.

The video makes it look quite good actually, although for me the negative points are too much. I never got into sims 3 that well and prefer the second sims. I spent so much of my spare teen life on the sims 2 that i cant imagine any sims game ever beating it.

When is this one set? I know there was sims 1, then sims 2 was after it with sims 3 being a prequal to both of them. This one has bella goth in it and don lothario so is this one meant to follow on from sims 2 with bellas return?

They've openly said that this game is a lot more like TS2. TS3 always felt like a different series to me, it doesn't feel like 'The Sims' at all. Add to that the removal of the gameplay which I enjoyed so much in TS2 (business anyone?!) and the watered down features which replaced it and I really start to miss TS2. If the alterations they've made with TS4 allow the more in-depth gameplay to return then I'm all for it. No matter how much money I throw at it TS3 is just a dull game.

TS4 isn't set in the same timeline as the first three games, think of it as an alternate universe.

Anyone having issues about the system requirements for TS4? I've just ran it through the systems requirements lab website and it says I don't have enough Dedicated Video Ram - apparently the requirement is 128MB and I only have 32MB. Does this mean I can't play the game when it comes out? I've been looking forward to it for ages..

32mb is really low, in fact 128mb is low as well. What kind of limitation you will get i'm not too sure, at best the game will be really slow, like a slideshow. You'll probably need a new gfx card.

I don't understand how it can be so low. It's only a 1 & a half year old Toshiba laptop and I can play Sims 2 and Sims 3 fine (apart from Seasons) and I just checked Sims 3 on systems requirements lab and it's all fine.

Sims 3 is a 5 year old game though. just looking at the system requirements for Sims 3 and that also required 128mb minimum, so you must run it on very low settings.

Also, 32mb in a 1 & a half year old laptop probably means it was quite a budget laptop which are never great for gaming.
