RB - Lahm
LB - Blind
CB - Garay
CB - Hummels

CM - Mascherano
CM - Lahm

AM - Kroos
AM - Rodriguez
AM - Robben

CF - Mueller

Subs: Howard, Johnson (USA), Rodriguez (Switzerland), Schweinsteiger, Valbuena, Cuadrado, Van Persie

Side to be managed by Roy Hodgson, obviously...

For old times sake? Or to add a bit of combativeness into the attack?

No

I think that post is in reference to a certain poster who seems to have a made an official shrine for Zidane on DS

That's just for my benefit

Even though I have never even been a France supporter and Andrea Pirlo, Fabio Cannavaro and Francesco Totti are my favourite players of the past 20 years.

It's only because I think Zidane was better than Messi that I get the special treatment I still think they are in different leagues.

I was hoping that they'd actually go through with it and recall Totti to the national team, as unlikely as it was. Bunch of teases.

I doubt Totti would have done worse than Balotelli.

I'm convinced he would have torn 2006 a new one if he didn't have that ankle injury beforehand too, he was scoring for fun around that time.

Besic was absolute quality and I'd love to have included him in my team but as the tournament goes on your attention starts to go more to those players still involved. Halfway through I never thought anyone would be better than Ochoa in goal. Then Howard was immense, then Navas and by the end Romero was excellent too.

I did include Aurier though, who did go out in the groups, so maybe I was a bit hypocritical there but Lahm.....well, Lahm is the best fullback out there I think and once he went to fullback Germany looked better. I just couldn't include him because he was in midfield for a bit - which I found very strange.

Besic was immense though. If no-one saw his games (Bosnia) then you missed a great individual performance because he was winning the ball and driving forward much like Roy Keane did in his pomp. I see Everton have been linked with him.

Nice team but Lahm is going to be tired at the end!

I agree with you on Howard and the other goalkeepers you have mentioned. Lahm, yes, and I understand what you are saying about him too, but I was trying to pick out a few players who had so far been missed. One of the disappointing things was that no African team impressed. Of their players, Aurier would by my choice of the bunch.

No one picked Pirlo? I know he is 100 years old but I would have him in my team any day.

As good as he is, being the fulcrum of a team who limped out in the group stages doesn't exactly scream 'pick me'

Balls! Meant to put Zabaleta in at right back, then realised I couldn't NOT have Lahm in there.

Mind you, the work Lahm gets through, you could probably have him playing both positions!
