So i'm guessing the wigs at FIFA, decided before the final who the award was going to. What if Messi had a Zidane moment or a Suarez moment, & left the field in disgrace? Would he still have collected it? Sour taste and all that.
The bloddy smirking FIFA suit were getting on my nerves. I hope the whole Qatar Scandel doens't get wiped away because of the World Cup. Anyway, Mascherano or Robben Should have gotten the award. |

I understand your point, but the fact is, our Premiership is made of a number of good teams. Messi to be fair only has to score against two (at best) decent defences (Real Madrid and after this season just gone, Atletico.) as there really are only three teams in his league.

The desperation of die hard Messi fans on this thread makes me laugh. Maradona is now not even a great player... let's try to re-write history in its entirety in order for everyone to bow down before the football messiah Lionel Messi. Maybe he even invented the game?
Quote:
Maradona is one of the greatest players to ever live, arguably the greatest depending on your preference.
Messi is an absolute phenomenon who is yet to boss a World Cup in the way others have which many regard as one of the necessities to be in the elite all-time best, but also has plenty of time yet to do so. Let's all stop being fannies. I said that I would never consider him great due to this. Everyone of course can hold their own opinion, that's what free speech is all about. |

It's obvious Messi got it because he was there. They couldn't deal with the embarrassment of both golden ball and boot winners not being there.

Clearly the strongest league is the German Bundesliga - look how many players from that league made the semi-finals and won the cup. Players from the Bundesliga are always physically much fitter than those from other European leagues.
one of these players who played in the semi final was dante , someone you described as being "a random guy from the street" in another thread , but he still managed to be part of that Bayern team that won the bundesliga by 19 points ... |

Jesus, what with Quatar and it's ensuing grotesqueness...can FIFA get any worse. Loved the booing of that gargoyle Sep Blatter.

It's a rubbish one horse race league. Even if the other horse has a good jockey Bayern will buy him.
Funny in it's ridiculousness.None of your heros in the premier leauge can make up a team that can even attempt to play, let alone, win a game at the World Cup. Keep plugging your argument...see where it gets you, about as far as the GB squad in the World Cup I suspect. |

Don't know if you know, but Deutschland won the WOLD CUP. 2014. Your attempts at rubbishing the Bundesliga is risable.

The only notable Premier League players were Suarez because he bit someone and David Luiz because he was practically alone responsible for his team conceding 10 goals in 2 games. Then there was the English team that managed 1 point in 3 games... |
With that logic the French league was the best in the world and so was the Brazilian. It must be if they won the world cup! That well known acid test for how good a national league is. The Bundesliga is as competitive as the Scottish Premiership.
You might want to pay closer attention to last nights game.
Oezil has actually been one of Germany's worst players (by their standards). Schürrle was the only good German from the Premier League and even he didn't have a permanent spot in the start XI. |

Right... Germany's best players were Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Mueller, Hummels, Goetze (yesterday) and Neuer. How many of them played in the Premier League last season?
Oezil has actually been one of Germany's worst players (by their standards). Schürrle was the only good German from the Premier League and even he didn't have a permanent spot in the start XI. And the Daily Mail propoganda against Ozil has been false as well. He's been very good in previous games as well. His passing, dribbling and chances created stats are among the best in the tournament. There's a reason Michel Platini asked for Ozil's shirt. Ozil has been fantastic for the Germans. Staticically, he's been better than Kroos and Lahm in most key areas. But when the British media decides they've got it in for someone (and they've had the knives out for Ozil since the middle of last season) it's incredibly difficult to shift their narrative. So even strong performances can be reported as "disappointing". And we the gulliable public often fall for it. Especially when Ozil is not really the type of midfielder known for scoring goals. But he's created a lot for Germany. |

The Premier League will be leading the way when the FIFA 2014 World Cup starts in Brazil this week. A total of 109 top-flight players have been named in the final 23-man squads of the 32 competing nations.

What I want to know is when did we decide to start spelling the German player's names with an extra 'e'? Did I miss an assembly or something because I can vividly remember Mueller being Muller, Oezil being Ozil, and Schuerrle being Schurrle. I don't mind either way I'm just a bit perturbed that something like that has changed and no-one has even mentioned it. I feel like I'm in an Invasion Of The Body Snatchers scenario!
Seriously, what is going on? Is it that we (the English speakers) would usually translate the German double-dot above a vowel as just being the vowel but now we have started translating it as vowel plus an 'e'? Ie'm coenfuesed! (Oho - I look above and see Xela has a double-dot! How do you do that then?) |
