Eastenders - Is the gender of a baby important?
When a female character's get pregnant is it important what the gender of the baby is to certain characters and potential future characters, atm with have Kat, Cindy and Ronnie pregnant.
Kat is as far as we know having twin boys, reaction was a bit mixed as a lot felt she should of had a daughter because of her past history with Zoe and the fact she already has a son. I think Ronnie is more likely to have a girl if everything goes smoothly, because of the Mitchell sister stuff and the fact two boys will already be born. or is it totally irrelevant what they have as the characters will not become of any significant until they older anyway? |

Ronnie's Pregnant?
When was this announced? Back to original topic, I'm not sure it really matters as the characters will probably not be around by the time they grow up anyway.

It's not important. There's no guarantee EastEnders will still be on when these babies are old enough to be adult characters. No one could have guessed Martin Fowler would remain on the show for 21 years when he was born in 1985.

I think it's important, because there may be the possibility of the character being brought back in the future.
I agree about Kat having twin boys, and that it'd be better for her to have a daughter as she already has a son and didn't really get to raise Zoe - it's just a different dynamic. I definitely think Ronnie will have a girl and I want her to, because of Danielle and the fact that the only one of her babies we've seen her with was James and he was a boy. It doesn't really make a difference to me whether Cindy Jr. has a boy or a girl, but I think she'll have a girl, purely for the connections to Ian and Lucy. I don't think it's important, unless it's relevant to a past or future storyline, as above, or if the baby is being named after a parent. |

Kat having a girl would be nice as you said because of her history with Zoe. I'm glad we have a potential Den III too even if we never see him owning a pub, driving his frazzled Mrs to drink etc.

Kat should've had a boy and a girl, for the variety. Giving her two more boys is redundant with Tommy already being on the scene. But TPTB have a real aversion to adding females to the Moon clan, it seems.

I'm not sure it matters that much as although some babies stay on into adulthood most don't and they can always introduce other gender characters for them to interact with when the time comes.
Re Kat, in some ways I think it works better if she has twin boys because it might leave her feeling a little unsatisfied - she can't make up for not having raised a daughter and although having 3 children later in life should fill that hole, it doesn't quite - which leads to more dramatic potential. Also, it works that having come from a female dominated family, she becomes the breeder of a male dominated one. However with the Beales, it worked for Lucy and Peter to be a boy and girl as it replicated Pete and Pauline on the same day he died. A friend of mine had twin fraternal boys - she's fine with it, doesn't think it would have been less work if one had been a girl. |

I'd have liked Kat to have boy and girl twins, it would have been very fitting considering Alfie is one of Ian's closest friends- or used to be anyway.

For Kat I would say yes. Out of her and Alfie, she is the more iconic character and as such, it would be better to have a Mini Kat that could be introduced in years to come than two Mini Alfies. With Cindy and perhaps Ronnie (if Ronnie alive leaves within the next few years, there is a chance for them to have the one of the opposite sex off screen, which could then be introduced.) Kat is 44 so she won't be getting pregnant again. Desperately hoping that this twin boys thing turns out false; there's more potential with the Beales and with Kat raising a daughter I think. She hasn't fully recovered from the affair storyline and I don't think her being unhappy because she never had another daughter will do her any favours. Everyone complained when she didn't seem to get any joy from Tommy. Plus there is the issue of names. Nana Moon meant a lot to both of them and her last wish was for them to be together; it would be fitting if they named a daughter after her, plus I think it'd make the episodes so much more emotional than if they have boys and try to be funny with those stupid muppet names.
Cindy - Hope she has a boy just for the change. Every teen pregnancy seems to result in a girl. I definitely don't want to see her having a girl and calling it Lucy; that should be left for Peter to do if he so wishes. |

Kat should have at least one girl and call her Victoria after Alfie's Nana and if this doesn't happen then DTC and his writers don't really know what the audience want! |

I think it would nice for Kat to have twin boys. For the simple reason that all twins born in soaps are a girl and a boy Quote:
I would of been just as happy if Kat had twin girls. But twin boys? What a nightmare! Lol

Kat would be 43/44 so she not too old to have another but that would probably be too much even for them two and I get the feeling this is sort of present for fans of the characters because of all the crap they've been through and well baby s/l ain't that interesting but I think it's important for the show history to see children grow up on screen, you never know we might have another Janine!

I get that feeling too which is why the apparent two boys thing isn't making any sense - when the pregnancy was announced, everyone seemed to want her to have a girl to complete the picture. If they wanted a soap first with same sex twins as the children of main characters, they should be girls. There are boys in Corrie and Hollyoaks. They could have called the other Jean perhaps which would also be fitting, not the awful apparent names. |
