I have more suspicions that Nick Cotton is alive now. Although, not confirmed- John Altman's Wikipedia page states in his filmography that he's playing Nick Cotton 1985- present as it says 'Series regular, 1985–93, 1998, 2000–01, 2008–09, 2014-' ? His character profile Wikipedia page says his funeral storyline 'introduces doubts over whether Nick is truly dead.' Does anybody think he'll return? I'm thinking he is the 'Christmas twist' DTC is promising, either being part of the Lucy Beale Storyline or part of his own storyline involving Dot, Charlie and Yvonne Cotton. It would be interesting to hear theories if he is part of the Lucy Beale storyline.

I'd bet money that he'll be back in the show by the 30th anniversary.

Anyone can edit Wikipedia to be fair. It's not been confirmed he's coming back but I think it's pretty obvious he's not dead.

It's not a case of it he'll appear, more when.

I wonder if he supplied Lucy with drugs or if he's completely non related to the Lucy murder plot.

I think he is alive.

I also hope his storyline (alongside Dot's and Charlie's) are completely unrelated to Lucy's death, it would be to obvious to do it since everyone is thinking it...

I'd like to think his storyline is unrelated to Lucy's death, this means DTC could bring him back to scare the living daylights of dot on Christmas Day! I mean it would be great to have two big storylines for Christmas Day this year i.e Nick Cotton returns from the dead and a twist to the Lucy Beale plot going on at the same time. It would be far far better from the last few Christmas Day episodes, I mean I'm a fan of Eastenders but from the last few Christmas's since Archie Mitchell's Murder it hasn't engaged me: Christmas Day 2010- Stacey's Escape from police, 2011- Yusef Khan's B&B explosion, 2012- Derek Branning's quick heart attack, 2013- David gets run over by Janine's car only to recover and get back up from his feet a few seconds later! I can see it being a great Christmas episode this year if Nick turns up! I mean he turned up at Dot's doorstep on Christmas Day 2008!

He's alive, the person in the coffin was not Nick, so there is no real indication he is dead.

I think Nick is still alive and his return will be another twist in the Lucy story.

His funeral was very suspicious imo and I wouldn't trust Charlie, his mum or the Cokers as far as I could chuck them!

Charlie's story seems to be on the back burner

I have a sneaking suspicion that Nick is NOT dead, and "Charlie Cotton" is in fact Paul Coker.

Hence Pam's little speech to Carol about at times having to do something that scares you - in her case pretend your grandson is a stranger to keep him out of jail when he has fallen in with bad company and is in trouble.

I really wish they'd do more with the Charlie storyline. I'm far more interested in that than the Lucy storyline

Absolutely 100% alive. It will be a much much bigger twist if he really is dead lol

Charlie actually being Paul Coker has occurred to me too but would he really have needed to bribe Les into faking the funeral if they were related?

I'm positive that Nick isn't dead and do suspect that either he or the reasons for faking his death tie into Lucy somehow.

I agree Nick is alive - the funeral farce proved it.

The only reason I think Charlie Cotton IS Charlie Cotton is because he seems to have genuine feelings for Dot and if he wasn't her real grandson why would he be bothered???

I too wish they would feature his SL more, it intrigues me, which is more than I can say about "Who killed Lucy". I think they have bombed with that one, after the initial shock of it.

He's alive 100%.

I think that was made clear when Charlie said that he couldn't have Dot look in the coffin - because it obviously wasn't him.

It's not that easy to substitute a dead body and have it cremated. Nick's death would have had to be registered, with either a Coroner being involved or attending doctors if the death was of natural causes. Yes, a bent funeral director could put a different body into the coffin if if course he just happens to have a spare hanging round to dispose of (bit far fetched idea) but he would still have the problem of death registration documents for Niick.

And where did the paperwork come from to get the cremation organised? The Registrar/Coroner would still have to issue certificates in the name of Nick Cotton.

I'm pretty sure he is alive. I hope the Charlie Cotton storyline will pick up again soon because it's a slow burner..

Wouldn't he have been a bit whiffy after all those weeks? I know that can be staved off by being embalmed and kept in a very cold environment (as Lucy must have been in the Police morgue) but who would have got to Carl quickly enough to do that?

No that body belonged to somebody Nick or somebody involved in the plot killed I imagine. Or possibly, just possibly a homeless, unidentified John Doe that perhaps the Police had passed to Coker to bury. I don't know the exact procedures for that type of thing but the State must do something with the bodies of the Dead they can't identify.

Charlie might just be a fairly decent person deep down and although he'd had to do this thing of convincing Dot that Nick is dead (for some reason) he likes her and now wants to do his best to help her any way he can. I'm more inclined to think he really is Nick's son though. Either way, I like him and would like to see more of him. Actually, all the new characters DTC has introduced are pretty good and have a lot of potential - even Tosh who is probably the worst of them.

.
In cases where an unidentified body is found the local authority must dispose of it. The Coroner would issue his certificate to authorise the burial/cremation and once the disposal has taken place the authority has to notify the Registrar that the disposal has taken place, where and when it took place and by what means. Basically the same process as for a normal death really.

He's not dead - there will be a shock (hopefully unspoilt!) return sometime soon, hopefully on Xmas Eve/Day (usual "Hello Ma" cliffhanger) - maybe Nick could be Lucy's murderer, revealed 30 years on since he murdered Reg Cox in Ep1 (link to the past for EE30!) Probably not though.

June Brown loves working with John Altman - if they'd killed him off screen, she would have spoken out - he'll be back & I can't wait
