bt infinity speeds
well just got bt infinity 2 installed yesterday as the cab went live 3 weeks ago i am one of three on the cab at the moment according to the openreach man.
only thing is that the speed i am smashing down at the moment on speed test is 60meg when taking out the deal bt quoted i would get 74meg what i would like to know does bt infinity do like the old school broadband and sync with the exchange and find the best speed the line can handle in like the first 2 weeks of having it installed or will this be the speed i can only get |

Yes, the automatic DLM should improve it within the next 10 days or so. If nothing happens, report it to BT as the DLM can be reset by an engineer and they may be willing to do that but first, give it a chance to work automatically.

Which Speedtest?
Use BT's. Make sure you're testing via LAN. http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ What does the DSL checker quote as your impacted/normal FTTC speeds? http://dslchecker.bt.com/ If you have HH5 you can find out your sync speed by clicking "Troubleshooting" then "Helpdesk" on the hub's web interface. |

Note that this is an ESTIMATE! There are all sorts of wiring issues which can reduce what you actually get!

Certainly looks like the line is under-performing. The wholesale checker is usually accurate (and typically, conservative when it comes to speed predictions).
thing i am finding now is its not very stable compared to my old adsl for example downloading a file it starts then says download failed then i have to restart the bloody download again, but most annoyingly i play mmo games a lot especially world of warcraft and since going FTTC i am for ever getting disconnected from the server and it takes ages before i can reconnect again, never really had this issue on adsl |

I am looking at moving to BT Fibre but I'm not sure which package to go for
I have looked on the BT Wholesale website and this is what I can get FTTC Range A (Clean) Download: 41.7 (high) 32.4 (low) Upload: 8.3 (high) 6.3 (low) FTTC Range B (Impacted) Download: 35.8 (high) 20 (low) Upload: 8.3 (high) 5 (low) For the extra £3 would it be worth going for Infinity 2? Also what does FTTC Range A (Clean) & FTTC Range B (Impacted) mean? obviously I know what the FTTC stands for but I don't know what the clean and Impacted means |

It can be a bit conservative as well. For example the checker gave my line a clean ADSL2+ speed of upto 11Mb - it was actually 14Mb - and a predicted 35Mb for a clean Infinity1 which was actually 39Mb after installation. |

Clean is a line without wiring issues - basically a "good connection" - whereas an impacted line is one with wiring issues such as poor extension wiring etc.
If your current DSL connection (ADSL2+) speed is at the upper end of the BT's Wholesale checker (or above it) then your line is probably clean. It can be a bit conservative as well. On those estimates you are unlikely on Infinity 2 to get 40Mbps and even if you do, it is unlikely to exceed 41.7Mbps. So on balance, I think the answer to your question is "no" unless BT will agree to downgrade you again at no cost, should your speeds not exceed whatever figure you can negotiate with them.

I believe all Openreach Fibre cabs offer upto 80mb , your line will be further from the cab judging by your estimates.
