The Z2 recently(ish) got an update to the camera that simply shut it down after a short time in standby, before then refusing to start at all. In the next update, Sony says it has addressed issues to make the camera use less power - but I doubt it can fix things completely.

The G3 warns it will shut down. Perhaps that could be tweaked too, but who knows?

I really do think that any device using Snapdragon 800 and above is going to be running hotter than older devices, even when not seemingly doing that much. My Z2 rises by about 5 degrees C just when starting it. That's taking no photos (but it's analysing everything in real time) or video.

I wonder what Qualcomm has to say on the subject, given it is selling devices in locations far hotter and more humid than the UK.

my 930 gets very hot but not in any way like it does for you. Check if you have too many background apps running that are not needed like Here Drive+ or Here Maps, Here Transport etc...

No. I usually have nothing running except push notifications and it's random, I just suddenly feel a heat in my pocket

It's around the camera lenses on top. Two triggers are, but not only, using the camera and battery going around 30-40%.

I went into my local EE store this morning and asked about the offer for the 930 on pay as you go. Nobody had a clue and they had no hand sets in the store.

you should complain as to why they don't have any in stock, especially when something is in promotion, and especially when nobody knew anything about the phone or deal. How useless are EE.

Dev preview works for OS updates but not for firmware updates which are still carrier dependent. Also, dev preview mode voids warranty, only "officially released" versions are warranty compatible.

Also, I find that the phones just do not work as well on the dev previews (i.e. latest OS but older firmware). This comes from experience of running 8.1 without Cyan but also running 8.0 GDR 2/3 without Black.

GDR 2, 3 previews worked very well for me on L920. I guess there were not many changes that required corresponding changes in FW. WP8.1 is a different story.

I've also updated to 8.1 using the dev preview and didn't have many issues. The first release did drain my battery incredibly fast but an update fixed this issue. There have been a few small issues with the dev preview but I still think it's worth it if you're a Windows Phone enthusiast.

Good idea. I was made to feel as I was the strange one for asking this. I even showed them the deal on HotUk deals but it didn't help.

Taking delivery of this bad ass handset on Monday, really excited for the camera, moving from Android. I've seen nothing but positives for the 930 and Windows phone 8.1, has anybody else taken the plunge and left iOS or Android for WP8.1? Just curious to know how others adapted to life on wp8.1?

In terms of workflow, Android and iOS are actually quite similar and Windows Phone is more different.

Be patient, it will take time to unlearn the patterns built in.
Take some time to read and look up things, winsupersite and wpcentral are good resources
Experiment by trying to click or long press on things, it has a "clickable ui" unlike ios
You can pin more than apps to the start screen e.g. People, web pages, individual photo albums or songs

Check if you have too many background apps running that are not needed like Here Drive+ or Here Maps, Here Transport etc...
