I've never found it to shut down, but I have only had it since 17th so time will tell, but hopefully Nokia will get a firmware fix out soon.
The more people that tweet and make a fuss the more likely the fix will come sooner. The Z2 recently(ish) got an update to the camera that simply shut it down after a short time in standby, before then refusing to start at all. In the next update, Sony says it has addressed issues to make the camera use less power - but I doubt it can fix things completely. The G3 warns it will shut down. Perhaps that could be tweaked too, but who knows? I really do think that any device using Snapdragon 800 and above is going to be running hotter than older devices, even when not seemingly doing that much. My Z2 rises by about 5 degrees C just when starting it. That's taking no photos (but it's analysing everything in real time) or video. I wonder what Qualcomm has to say on the subject, given it is selling devices in locations far hotter and more humid than the UK. |

Does it ever actually shut down while hot?
I've seen issues with the Sony Z2 and LG G3, on both the camera completely stopped working due to overheating. My 1020 occasionally gets hot, thankfully never uncomfortably so.

It drains the battery rather quickly and if you do not catch it, it will shutdown. It happened just today to me. There was an update to power saving setting so I thought, cool, they finally fixed that. Not. It was at 40% and after an hour it was beeping that the battery was low. It does not look like firmware issue though. It's on L930, L1520, L1020. I am a bit disappointed, it's been reported in WP8.1 long time ago, it's in RTM. Overheating and thus short battery life should have a top priority to fix for mobile devices. This does not seem to be some obscure, not reproducible bug

my 930 gets very hot but not in any way like it does for you. Check if you have too many background apps running that are not needed like Here Drive+ or Here Maps, Here Transport etc...
It's around the camera lenses on top. Two triggers are, but not only, using the camera and battery going around 30-40%.

Cheers for the heads-up, it's tempting, I don't know whether to hold out for Mclaren with 3D touch. I want to see one of these in person first, I want to see if it's lighter than my 920 (the bulkiness and weight of it is starting to annoy me now) and I want to see how much faster the newer chipset makes things.
Do you know if it is easy to unlock an EE pay as you go phone? Their deal with £15 10GB data lasting 90 days sounds decent. I'm thinking I'm going to get off my Three plan with tethering as it isn't very fast in London on mobile and tethering is very slow. http://m.wpcentral.com/microsoft-kills-3d-touch-windows-phone-codenamed-mclaren |

I went into my local EE store this morning and asked about the offer for the 930 on pay as you go. Nobody had a clue and they had no hand sets in the store.

The biggest issue with operator branding is then you need operator approval to get an update. It can mean updates being delayed for months or not getting them at all. That's not an issue if it is unbranded and locked.

You can get around this by signing up for a free developer account.
All the info can be found here http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows-...questions.html Also, I find that the phones just do not work as well on the dev previews (i.e. latest OS but older firmware). This comes from experience of running 8.1 without Cyan but also running 8.0 GDR 2/3 without Black. |

GDR 2, 3 previews worked very well for me on L920. I guess there were not many changes that required corresponding changes in FW. WP8.1 is a different story.

Dev preview works for OS updates but not for firmware updates which are still carrier dependent. Also, dev preview mode voids warranty, only "officially released" versions are warranty compatible.

you should complain as to why they don't have any in stock, especially when something is in promotion, and especially when nobody knew anything about the phone or deal. How useless are EE.

Taking delivery of this bad ass handset on Monday, really excited for the camera, moving from Android. I've seen nothing but positives for the 930 and Windows phone 8.1, has anybody else taken the plunge and left iOS or Android for WP8.1? Just curious to know how others adapted to life on wp8.1?

Be patient, it will take time to unlearn the patterns built in. Take some time to read and look up things, winsupersite and wpcentral are good resources Experiment by trying to click or long press on things, it has a "clickable ui" unlike ios You can pin more than apps to the start screen e.g. People, web pages, individual photo albums or songs |
