I thought that the BBC had to get things on DTT done by today (16th July) due to the lockdown, has that been relaxed?
Im presuming that the BBC are reducing the radio channels in Scotland again so that CBBC can go full res or at least 704*576 whereas BBC RB 301 (which it will share with during the games) is usually 544*576?

Currently OFF in Scotland R1, R2, R3, World Service and R Nan Gaidheal. All other BBC Radio on.

But according to the EPG Radio 4, 4 Extra, Asian Net and Radio Scotland will be OFF round-the-clock from 6am Monday. This must be a mistake, no?

I wonder if BBC Alba are extending their hours for extra games coverage?

No, I just checked the website for Thursday week.

Garazi Goia, acting head of BBC Distribution said:
Quote:
“We need this capacity back to enable our Commonwealth Games configuration to work, so I’m sorry to say that the stations which were restored in December 2013 will revert to being unavailable in the evenings on Freeview in Scotland from 16th July until shortly after the Commonwealth Games. The affected stations are: BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 4 Extra, BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio Scotland.”

(bold highlighting mine)

Do keep us informed of what does actually happen in Scotland, as the BBC's own information appears to be out-of-date.

We speculated that the date might have something to do with a lockdown, coming so early before the start of the Games.

It now appears the changes to the SD mux will occur on Monday. I would imagine that BBC RB 301 will switch from being a simulcast of BBC RB1 on satellite to being a simulcast of BBC RB0 from then on.

Well BBC RB 0 on Dsat (or the vidoe stream for it) doesnt seem do do anything at the moment or it didnt as of yesterday (I havent checked today), so maybe that will start to work on Dsat from Monday too?
I wonder if BBC RB 302 will become a simulcast of RB 1 on Dsat from that time onwards too?
I guess after the games 301 will stay being a simulcast of what is now RB 0 on Dsat as CBBC wont be sharing the stream and RB 0 on Dsat will again become RB 1 on Dsat?

BBC RB 301 now timesharing with CBBC.
BBC Three SD now ready for daytime Commonwealth Games coverage from Thursday.

Any updates from Scotland regarding BBC Radio availability on Freeview?

Was wondering why CBBC HD was off the other day as I have it in place of the SD version which has long since been deleted. Never noticed that BBC Three HD was now 24/7 in preparation for the games either, although I'm sure no content is being shown during the day, but there was no holding caption or video being played in the daytime hours.

There has been a holding video loop on BBC 3 HD on Dsat since last Wednesday, Im surprised that it wasnt showing on DTT!

I dont have HD on DTT, I only have HD on Dsat with a Sky HD box, so I couldnt check BBC 3 HD on DTT.
I see that what I thought about it being the same was correct though!
I guess on BBC 3 SD on DTT its the same as Dsat now, but I havent checked that yet for myself.

BBC Three HD was switched to 24 hour operation on Freeview on Wednesday 16th, as stated in the very first post.

BBC RB301 on Freeview is now the same as BBC RB0 on satellite and cable.
BBC RB302 on Freeview is now the same as BBC RB1 on satellite and cable. (Previously BBC RB301 was the same as BBC RB1).
On satellite and cable, BBC RB HD will be the same as BBC RB0 (and by default BBC RB301) starting Thursday.

By the way, the radio situation in Scotland is what it should be and the EPG has been corrected.

R1, R2, R3, R4, R5SX, R4X, Asian, WS, RScot and RnG all off while BBC ALBA is on.

One big question is, is CBBC/BBC RB 301 in 720*576 res or at least 704*576 res as opposed to 544*576 as BBC RB 301 usually is?

I would have expected it to be, to maintain the quality of the CBBC stream. However, CBBC/RB 301 is 544x576. The resolutions of BBC Four/CBeebies and BBC News channels have also been dropped to 544x576. Strange!

I find it strange that D3&4 can have 9 720*576 streams, but BBC A can only have 7 UK wide with some radio stations and slightly less radio stations with an evening stream for BBC Alba in Scotland?
I know they want a very good quality for BBC 1 and 2 which is fine, but they could surely share the reaming bitrate carefully so that all their channels/streams(in the case of BBC RB 301) have a 720*576 resolution and all the radio stations work properly in England, Wales and NI with some in mono in Scotland.

If they did that, people would be moaning about the picture quality. As does occasionally happen with regards ITV,C4,C5 on Freeview, despite the resolution changes. GOP is usually higher on D3&4. On BBC-A, BBC RB text takes up a chunk of bandwidth too. Analyse the charts on digitalbitrate.com

I'm looking at the London multiplexes on en.digitalbiterate, have they also taken the audio on the BBC1-4 down to 192kb/s?

Also, here in Scotland it appears that CBBC, CBeebies and BBC News are still 704x576. Yeah, seems crazy given what they've done to the radio stations here and the video in London

That is also the case with Emley Moor. Also, the second audio track on RB 301 has been removed.

Wasn't there meant to be BBC RB channels on COM7 or did I dream this?*

The original BBC press release did indeed imply that there would be more streams on Freeview and the type of receiver would have an impact on the number of streams available. That statement was soon revised.

Channel 4 took most of the remaining COM7 capacity for its services on 1st July. Perhaps if C4 had waited until August, the BBC could have added more RB streams on COM7? We can only speculate.
