Broadchuch/ Eastenders Links
I'm just thinking about the whole Who Killed Lucy being inspired by Broadchurch and we've already got parallels with the body having been moved locations, Lucy's blood being in Jake's flat etc and the missing phone and loads of other comparisons too.
Following on from that and possible links, was just thinking about the death of the Coker's son and weather this will become relevant? eg it will be revealed that their was suspicion over weather or not it was an accident. Les said they don't like talking about it (which I guess is understandable), however I have a feeling may become relevant and they will become under suspicion. In a sort of similar way to Pauline Quirke's character etc. Similarly I think Terry will also play a bit part in this. In Broadchuch it did turn out that the father of the child who had beef with the dead kid was the one who actually killed him. Following the link that would be Whitney who had a falling out/ disliked Lucy and we saw Terry comforting her etc. I reckon it will be revealed that he took her back to the flat in his taxi and was the last person to see her and maybe some other things from his past will come out - he'll be arrested and that will be his exit. Obviously not saying who has done it, but I do think the above two things are likely to happen. Also in the end the killer will probably give themselves up by turning on Lucy's phone - again if DTC was inspired by BC for the storyline then that's how it will probably go. (That's if I'm right in thinking her phone is missing - can't actually remember). Just my two pence worth

I created a thread on it here, forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?p=73091218 and I got berated for listing the obvious comparisons between the two storylines. I love EastEnders but I think people get too passionate in defending it regardless…

I can see the links, and think the storyline is good - tbh I don't see why there is a problem with the comparison when a lot of them are obvious.

One of the things that slightly annoyed me with Broadchurch is that I thought the power going off at night had something to do with Danny being killed...but there was no link! That's proof that things may just happen and they aren't any link to the investigation....which should be remembered in Lucy's case.

It definitely was inspired by the success of Broadchurch which itself is inspired by the success of Scandinavian crime dramas like The Killing and The Bridge. There's also comparisons to Twin Peaks which they implied very heavily by using Twin Peaks theme music at the close of Tuesday's episode. They're all great shows so I don't mind them taking pointers from each of them.

Chibnall is on record as saying that Twin Peaks was the main inspiration for Broadchurch. Again Laura was moved from where she was killed, she was sexually involved with her school mate's father, she was taking cocaine, leading a whold secret life of which most were unaware. There are just as many direct comparisons between Lucy and Laura's story as Broadchurch but that is kind of inevitable with any whodunit murder mystery in a small community story like this.
