Humax and Magic Eye
Michael Blake
17-07-2014
Hi,
I've looked around for an answer but related posts all seem a little old, hence my posting. Our Sky+ box has stopped working so we are looking at moving to Freesat and the Humax HDR-1010S box. We keep the Sky box in a TV cabinet with the door closed hence we use a Magic Eye to control the box via its remote.

I've seen that the latest Sky+ boxes no longer support the magic eye through the RF output but they do offer a 'IO Link' for £14.99 which will allow you to use the Magic Eye. Please could someone tell me if something similar is possible with the Humax HDR-1010S box as we would want to use a magic eye or something similar to control the box inside the tv cabinet.

Many thanks,
Mickey

TRiax make the tri-link unit which emulates the Magic Eye system with non sky kit. It's a tad overkill for your needs. Look for a wireless ir repeater system like the powermids.

Hi,
Thanks for that, I found this at Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marmitek-IR-...9FT059W10ZGD5T

Do you know if I would also need this to go with it - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marmitek-Pow...G9PH42DQY95XXH

Thanks,
Mickey

If all you want to do is to get the IR signal from outside the cabinet to the IR receiver on the Humax then all you need is something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buyincoins-I...HQV05SRMKXWSG7

Hi,
Yes all we want is to get the IR signal outside the tv cabinet so that the remote will work. Many thanks for the link to that item.

There are many other brands as well, the nice thing is that get their power from one of the USB sockets so only use power when the host unit is on.

That's great thank you. Do you have any recommendation re: brands, I have a slight worry about u/k Chinese brands having read about the problems with their copied iPhone power leads.

I can't remember what I bought and I can find it on my purchases from Amazon or Ebay (UK or FR). I remember is was under £10. There is no branding on the receiver face.
I would not worry much as all it could pull is 5V power at I would guess 100 mA.
At under £4 I would suck it and see.
Please post what you get and how you get on with it - I may want another soon.

I did come across some with multiple re-transmitters so you could place more than one device in a cabinet. I managed to get away with one operating two devices.
