I always thought it would be impossibly hard to do, but I fancied chicken provencal but wanted cornfed chicken so a pack of ordinary chicken bits wouldn't really do.
I followed this video on BBCgoodfood:
How to joint raw chicken

Pretty straightforward - and an £8 chicken provided four generous portions of provencal!
Just make sure your knife is very sharp and strong kitchen scissors would be handy.

Might try spatchcock next - its even simpler!

Anyone else followed a video off the interweb to learn new tricks? (keep it clean, family thread )

It's much easier to de-bone a chicken after it's cooked.......

True, though I like meat "on the bone" - brings out my inner cave man, I suppose

Call me a show off but I always joint my chickens raw.

It's quicker to roast.

Btw, I watched 5 seconds of that video - too complicated!

I joint the legs first, they have joint sockets, find that and your knife easily goes through it. Then thighs next, then I do the wings. Next, I take the breast by going through the centre of the breast bone.

It can be tricky for the knife to go through, so be careful. It takes me 5 mins to joint.

I watched a couple of YouTube vids before I plucked and butchered a pigeon for the first time. It was pretty easy.

Never tried plucking poultry - always assumed it to be a tedious job probably painful on the fingers - did it take long Jambo?

No, it didn't take long at all. They come out really easily. I've a mate who goes shooting so he occasionally brings me stuff. He's bringing me a rabbit the next time he gets one, I'll probably Youtube how to skin and butcher that too.
