The dance school she attended (and taught at) doesn't appear to even teach ballroom except in social 'date night' sessions for adults .
Sorry to quote myself, but I'm not sure this is absolutely correct - it was just based on a cursory glance at their website. I think Derek and Julianne first took classes in Latin American, at the same place, so perhaps Allison did too. But as you said kp2ni, it's odd ABC (or anyone) isn't mentioning it....

Unfortunately that seem to be the case even Tony decided that ballroom technique, style or contents wasn't important last season. I sadly believe the rumours they were going back to basics this season unfortunately the evidence seems to be suggesting otherwise.
Well, you say that, but Alison's not exactly shabby at ballroom, and then they've signed Artem and Keo! Keo is a signal of intent, if you ask me. If they wanted a name etc, they'd have kept Sharna or promoted one of the troupe/brought back someone (like they did with Maks) who everybody knows and can be excited about. A new name with extensive ballroom pedigree shows they're looking to go back to basics.

I can't believe the way they treated Sharna! How rude of them! I really liked her really talented dancer. Also sad about Henry. Really talented aswell. Not given a chance to show what he can do. Well done to Artem seems like a better fit for him on dwts.

The main dance I have seen Alison do is Argentine tango which she is excellent at but this does tell me what she is like as a choreographer as she didnt choreograph it or as a ballroom dancer. I have never seen her tackle a waltz or quickstep or any standard ballroom dances so I can't speak of those. Saying that Amy almost win doing 2 ballroom dance and this is what I was on about going back to basics last year the emphasis was on Latin dances and jazz/contemporary which nearly all the contestants did, bringing in Alison who according to abc own bio specialises in jazz and contemporary does not make me think they are going back to ballroom. Last season they had 1 paso and that was Charlie who was never going to suit the paso unless he had Ian Waite taught him. Keo was in btf too so has probably done contemporary and jazz & as for Artem please see his american smooths as much as I like Artem (another fav of mine) you could hardly call him traditional. I know dwts was never traditional but I would actually like to see the celebs doing ballroom dances not showdances or contemporary. Even though Peta isn't a favourite of mine the fact abc are highlighting her ballet training instead of her ballroom training speaks volumes too.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised but can't see it at the minute.

The only other ballroom dances I saw Alison do was a salsa and jive but tbh it would be unfair to comment on those as yet again not her own choreograph and were from 2006. Also saw her dance west coast swing on sytycd but whether you call that a ballroom dance is dependable.

Also wish that they would make Peta sit out a season aswell! Not keen on her so much
You are not alone there

Julianne to be the fourth judge on DwtS? According to "Sources connected with the show" the two sides are in negotiations and Maks is not happy.

Maks might not be happy, but I am. I don't think I could trust Maks to be impartial like Julianne is. She's judged Derek twice, once with Amber, once with Nene, and both times she's been fair to him, whereas Val was eliminated when Maks came back a few seasons ago, but the amount you see him supporting Val on Twitter etc, you'd think he'd be quite hard pushed to be critical of his celebrity. Julianne almost never tweets about Derek and his partners (at least comparatively) so I think she's a more auspicious choice.

P.s. Anyone who says she was inappropriate with her comments to Maks and therefore shouldn't be a judge, grow up! She gave her opinion, and if she was right, she was right, and if she was wrong, it certainly didn't affect Maks too much in later weeks. Good choice!

According to his Facebook page, Tommy Chong has been "picked" for DWTS. Joke? Serious? High? who knows?

When I was watching some of DWTS earlier this year I had a feeling that they may add Julianne as a judge permanently soon enough. It seemed to add up with a few things:

- They had 4 judges for most of last season and it almost felt as if they were 'screen testing' people, plus this was Julianne's second season guesting
- Julianne made a couple of 'comments' which, while they weren't exactly controversial, they at least got people talking. She's not nicey-nice but she's not Abby Lee Miller, so it's a good mix.
- And then, it's a 2/2 male:female ratio on the panel

Who knows.. we'll just have to wait and see I guess!

With the exception of upsetting Maks fans (who really need to get over it) Julianne has been the most professional guest judge and given really good technical advice, especially in her first year (It was harder last year with it being Switch Up week to comment when they're without their usual partner)

I liked Julianne's judging as well. Although she did put me off with her comments r.e. Mark a little bit because even if it was true, it wasn't overly needed! (and I liked Christina, sad she left early).

If she feels confident enough to say it in front of millions on national television, I suspect she probably says such comments to them in private, and they're all still her friend (closely in Mark's case) so I doubt they're that offended...

Yes true...although Mark's face was a picture at a time.

Anyway, judge announcement will be made on Good Morning America tomorrow.

It wasn't what Julianne said, it was the way she said it that was the problem. However, she did say afterwards that she was upset she had said it and that she had apologised to Mark and they sorted it out.

Huge mistake having Julianne as a judge. Lots of people are not happy with the decision on twitter and facebook and will be watching something else.

Lots of other people, however, are very happy on twitter and Facebook. And if they're not watching, they won't be missed.

Much better option than having Maks back, by any means.

No not really when Maks and Meryl were one of the big reasons why the ratings improved last season. You would think the producers would have capitalised this with having Maks as a judge.

But Julianne's proved she can judge Derek without being biased- Maks is so up Val's arse I don't think he could be impartial! And, bare in mind, Meryl brought out the best in Maks, and she won't be there this series, so it would have been old Maks who had ego issues...

I know that Maks is signed to appear in two upcoming movies and one of them is scheduled to begin filming in September, so maybe his schedule would not allow him to be a judge this fall. Although rumor has it that he has been in negotiations with ABC as of late, but nobody knows what they are discussing - whether it was the judging position or something else. Maks and Sharna are already signed to appear with Meryl and Charlie in the dance/skating special taping in December for ABC. Maks also mentioned onstage at the "Ballroom with a Twist" summer tour a couple weeks ago that him and Meryl are doing a one-hour television special but no details yet, plus some other projects. So it appears they are going to use them, but seem to want to separate them from DWTS.....go figure. Who knows what they are thinking.

If they want to keep 4 judges Maks might be back 1 week when Len's away, unless they'll just stick with Julianne keeping it at 3...

I'm indifferent to Julianne, but in a toss up between her and Maks for the fourth judge, I would pick her. I suppose I just believe she's better able to stay neutral.

That said, I think having either of them is a mistake while their sibling is competing as it will invite cries of bias, whether it exists or not. The FanWarz between the Hough-Chmerkovskiy factions are already tedious in the extreme so a decision that seems motivated by a desire for yet more controversy depresses me .

I'd have preferred they stuck with three judges (whatever I may think of them). There's an excess of blather already!

I still maintain Julianne would have been chosen as Len's replacement if he'd gone this season, and would have kept at 3. However, I reckon Len will retire after season 20, which gives Julianne two seasons to get some experience, so when Len does leave, there's still a familiar looking judging line up, and Julianne isn't going off a handful of guest appearances.

As for Hough vs. Chmerkovskiy, people on twitter say I'm on team Hough because I didn't immediate decry Julianne's appointment, but as I've said before, Julianne's judged Derek twice before and been fair, so I have no doubt she'll do so again. If she gives Derek a 9 when Carrie Ann scores a 5, then we can cry wolf, but since there's nothing like the Dance Off in America, she'll never have chance to sway votes or decide who stays and goes, so she should be in the clear.

I don't think it will matter what she does, just as I don't think it's what Derek and Maks actually do that's significant. The opposing factions are way too entrenched to view either 'side' rationally and their hatred of the other is toxic. Of course, I could just stay away from all the US boards and blogs and commentary and remain here in splendid isolation and ignorance.....

Yeh, Digital Spy seems to be a haven for the more balanced DWTS fans. I really can't shake the fact that Meryl's victory was because she was partnered with Maks. I can only imagine if she'd been partnered with Derek she'd have been a ringah who shouldn't have been competing, and poor Amy with no legs deserved it much more. It really annoys me when morons allow their views on the pros to impact on how they feel about the celeb!
