I have just my 500GB 1000S from Humax and have bought m 2TB drive as well to do the upgrade but i was thinking while i have the unit open i may as well replace the stock fan with something a bit better, does anyone have any idea what size fan goes into the 1000S? I presume it's a 40mm unit but unsure if it's 10 or 20mm thick.

Sorry no idea, I didn't bother to look when I upgraded my hard drive.

Just out of interest what improvements are you hoping for over the stock fan ?

To be honest i was hoping for better airflow over the HDD with maybe less noise, however right this minute i'm inside the 1000S about to fit new 2TB and the damm fan is 15mm (not 10 or 20 like i hae in stock here) so i will google some of the info on the fan i can see, to work out current specs of the fan then try to find a better one, if the airflow/noise is marginal then i wont bother upgrading the fan.

I think with a good quality AV HDD you shouldn't have any noise/heat/airflow problems. All I ever hear is the hard drive and that's ever so quiet. I've got the usual 2TB WD drive in mine that a few other users have fitted.

I don't know what version of the 2TB you have (SATA 3 or 6) I did try to buy a SATA 3 drive (WD10EURS) but the bods at Amazon sold me a 2nd user unit with only 90 odd days of warranty so that went back and i bought the SATA 6 version (WD20EURX) and used the jumper on pins 5&6 to lock it at SATA 3 speed.

The fan in question is a 50x50x15cm unit and the model comes up as a "AUB0512LB" so i know have to look those specs up, I must admit i'm very anal about noise so although i suspect it will be a waist of time i will to see if there is anythimg much better out there.

Stock specs of the supplied fan are as follows:
Air Flow (CFM) 11.67
Fan Speed (RPM) = 4300
Noise Level (dBA) = 24

You can up the following
Gelid Solutions Silent 5
Air Flow (CFM) 12.9
Fan Speed (RPM) = 4000
Noise Level (dBA) = 23

Mines a WD20EURS, I did the mod a couple of months after the 1000s came out.

The stock fan doesn't seem to bad then.

As i say i have the new SATA 6 and used the jumper trick to limit the speed and it seems to be fine so far.

Your right, as you can see there is a small advange to replacing it but nothing to get excited about so i'm leaving at stock for now.
