still its a step forward, they are trying to take on Three but just cant completely compete. Bringing free 4G and now this, its a step in the right direction, but still not good enough.

I suppose it's perfect if your on pay monthly because O2 has more roaming agreements than 3 and therefore better coverage in Europe.

Do they? Typically most networks seem to have roaming agreements with ALL the significant networks in most foreign countries.

3 may have - at one time - limited "partner networks" in some 3-Like-Home countries but this now seems mostly back to as it was.

well they've got less than 18 months before the EU wide ban on roaming charges comes into effect so suppose there'll be more reasonable rates charged prior to that happening (reportedly Dec 2015)

more food for thought for those who want us out of the EU

This has been around for a while (at least the beg of July when I was in Spain). Side note - this isn't actually anywhere near 'unlimited' data - after a certain allowance it is traffic managed and slowed down to a ridiculously low speed (less than 1Mb/s it seems). The allowance itself seems tiny - prob around 20mb or so.

More than enough for the casual user who wants to use Whatsapp/check emails/FB but once you start checking FB a few times a day, uploading a few holiday snaps - the data limit vanishes and it slows down to virtually become unusable.

There's no way on earth O2 are giving customers 'Unlimited' data roaming for £2. It won't be unlimited it will be capped and the speeds will be throttled.

Yes it would seem so, with my 3 phone when I was last in France for example I could only use Bouygues Telecom & Sometimes Orange France, but my mate on O2 could use them ALL, now 3 only have access to Bouygues & Free mobile. (Still better than nothing)

O2 say

* There's no upper limit on Pay Monthly, but traffic management steps apply

I find it odd that they offer something on other people's networks that they aren't willing to offer on their own here at home!

And e.g. in Germany with Three you haven't got access to Vodafone either.

O2 Travel Data Service

A daily charge of £1.99 will be applied automatically on the days that you use data in the selected destinations.
There's no fixed data allowance with O2 Travel, but we'll slow down the service if you reach an assumed fair usage amount in order to manage traffic on the network. This will be more than 100MB of general data or more than 50MB of streamed video or audio data (the "assumed fair usage amounts") in a day . Audio and video streaming are available with O2 Travel but the quality of the audio/video will be optimised for a mobile device. The speed available for file transfer, online gaming, peer to peer downloads and network back-up services is restricted and may not work with O2 Travel.

50 or 100MB! Certainly no iPlayer then, not even any online radio really.

Also in Belgium, O2 customers can use all of the networks (Proximus, Mobistar & Base) but 3 customers can only use Base

Does it matter much though, you only have access to 1 network here not all, and most networks have decent coverage.

I would still prefer to have the choice of all networks compared to just one. And it's not really a valid argumentation to say you can only access one network here. Other UK networks provide access to more networks abroad and that's what most people are probably used to.

Yes, I was in Germany last month with my EE phone, it only ever accessed T-Mobile-de, or E-Plus, it could 'see' Vodafone and 02, but I couldn't force it to manually connect to either
of them. Also in parts of Cologne centre, the grade of connection was often GPRS !

...not being funny but this has been around for a good few years hasn't it?

I went to Ibiza a few years ago and had the O2 Travel bolt on applied to my pay monthly tariff whilst I was there. It offered unlimited data for £1.99 a day.

..whats changed?

I was only able to have a quick look around, but do none of the UK networks show their roaming partners anymore? I know Jabba provided a Three link which still showed the roaming partners. But by just going to the network's roaming sections and selecting a country, it doesn't seem to show any roaming partners. I know people will provide a link for every network now

It was limited to a few meg per day, where you had to pay another £1.99. Barely enough to use Google Maps if you are out exploring all day without paying more. Now you will only have one £1.99 charge per day.

I knew it But looking at the URL that doesn't seem to be straight forward way to go. If you go to the O2 website and then Shop and International, I end up here
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/international
And from there I didn't see the available networks.

Interesting that O2 doesn't offer access to Vodafone in Germany either.

None of the UK networks have access to Vodafone Group in general. With a few exceptions like access to Voda Ireland and New Zealand.
