Why does Christopher always get the short end of the stick?

He always seems to be up for eviction, we saw him last night not getting invited to the party and to top it all his supposed friends Ashleigh and Chris chose Mark over him to be a PHM.

He seems by far the nicest person in the house, why do the other HMs treat him like shit?

Basically because he lets them

Instead of putting his foot down with a firm hand at the beginning ,and standing up for himself whenever anyone said anything to him ,he just stood there and took it sometimes even apologising ,

So sadly he became the whipping boy of the house as they all realised they could treat him like dirt and he still wouldn't say anything

I feel for him.

He's so nice and lovable. He couldn't hurt a fly and makes an effort with everyone but gets little in return.

I want Christopher top3, ahead of Mark! (one can hope!)

I don't think we should blame Christopher for not standing up for himself. It's up to the others to treat him with respect.

I think it's a case of the housemates feeling able to treat him badly because they feel he won't hurt them back, whereas a lot of the others might do.

Yeah I don't think it's a case of him not standing up for himself but more he's just more understanding that they have to make decisions and doesn't let it get to him. So people know he's not going to be upset.

It's a shame though he doesn't deserve to be always singled out.

Agreed.

I don't think they all treat him like shit though, far from it, but this year he is the runt of the litter as it were/ bottom of the pecking order. I don't mean that in a horrible way but he should stand up for himself more at times.

He's almost too nice if you know what I mean. Despite being an intelligent enough guy he seems strangely naive and innocent also. He's a bit nerdy, awkward and introverted and this can be seen as weakness too

On a desert island type scenario he would the first one they eat.

Well he might 'seem' the nicest person in there ( edits can do wonders ) but he's certainly not popular with other housemates ( never has been )

He never gets picked by the others for anything ( or is picked last ) except when it comes to nominating him for eviction

I'm not convinced that even Mark likes him much

I guess there must be a reason for that but we're not being shown it in the highlights show for some reason

pmsl I do love your posts AOTB

Felt sorry for him last night his little face when Mark twice didn't pick him, yet he still sang Marks praises. He's a lovely lad

He's a bloody doormat. He's that kid in school you only bother with when you need something like tutoring. And because he so wants you to like him and so wants your friendship, he will help you. Then, you never talk to him again.

That old chestnut

The housemates previous criticism was that he was annoying, creeping up everywhere. I think it was Helen that referred to him as a wasp.

I don't think Chris is doing anything that's not being shown. I think he is a harmless guy but for some reason or another housemates find him irritating. I guess it's different to living with someone than viewing them. Still I don't think he's done anything to warrent the amount of criticism he got. Helen, Pauline and Toya have been quite cruel to him at different times.

I also disagree with those who are suggesting he is to blame because he's not standing up for himself. That's like giving others a free pass to treat him that way.. Not everyone posses the same confidence or have that kind of temperment. Christopher strikes me as a mild-mannored man who is cool as a cucumber but has low confidence levels.

Having said all that I do think he has blossomed in the last couple of weeks in handling criticism. Not that he couldn't before but I remember in the days of Pauline he would cry and become very isolated. Christopher knows who he is and who his friends are. He doesn't need to stoop to Helens level to make a point (in the way Mathew did - even if I couldn't blame him at the time.)

I don't think anyone's said anything about him being nasty. Only they find him annoying. I think he struggled to make friends in the first few weeks and he'd try and integrate while the others were bitching and they interpreted that (with the help of Pauline's stirring) that he was snooping in on their bitch sessions. When really he was trying to make friends.

But the interesting thing is none of the housemates who have left have continued disliking Christopher once they left and a couple have even said that they feel bad over how he was treated. Toya has said in a Q&A on twitter that her only regret is not getting to know Christopher better for example.

No one notices Christopher. No one is afraid of him. No one needs to worry what he thinks. No one needs to factor him or his feelings into their decisions.

Everyone underestimates Christopher.

It's his great strength and why he'll see them all go one by one until he wins.

I think they found him annoying in his habits the clips on the website would often see him being shouted at for things like leaving water in the bath or getting his own plate which sounds really small offences but maybe living with someone who constantly does irratating things can get on your neves
There is a clip on the website today where Christopher, Ashleigh and Chris are having a winge about the kitchen being really messy after they spent ages cleaning it, apparently only those 3 do most of the cleaning but what was interesting was Ashleigh was having a real go at Christopher for leaving some toast he hadn't eaten in the toaster, Christopher quite rightly pointed out that why is she being all dramatic about that when the whole kitchen is a mess with plates piled up the sky etc, so I think with a few of them old habits die hard, I think he does get picked on because he's easy to complain to without repercussions.

Just to be clear, I'm not speaking firsthand. But you would see that happening and go, "Poor sap." In Christopher's case, from what I've seen of him, he is quite irritating and needy. "It would be nice to know that someone considered me to join the party," as he constantly seeks validation through others. Pathetic, really. And it's a trait I detest in others, so I can't even feel sorry for him.

I think he drew the short straw right from the get go when for whatever reason Pauline and Helen both decided they didnt like him....or that he was annoying. Others then seemd to follow suit, due I suspect to the mere fact that arguably the two most influencial housemates at that point in time had let it be known they didnt like him. That early in the game when they were trying to establish themselves in the house Christopher just seemed to be the easy target, and in no way a threat to them.

I like him a lot more now, seems more self confident and one thing I like is than even now when Helen insists on belittling him ( the manner in which she said she'd give the pass to Mark but not Christopher), he didnt bite and it was like her opinion didnt even register with him anymore. I like to see someone grow in there and I think thats what hes done

The housemates think Christopher is an also-ran. The guy that goes the week before the final and is forgotten. If anything - he's a true underdog.

How is that constantly seeking validation? Wouldn't any normal person like the thought of people considering them? Christopher didn't get chosen for something twice in one day by someone he considers his best friend and took it on the chin and didn't complain. Yet, Ashliegh was sat moaning she didn't go the party when people she wasn't even close with made the decision based on that she's always chosen to go to parties.

So presumably it also shows up Chris and Ashleigh, as they never bothered to choose him either, they chose Mark over him for the Alliance, and not one of them fought for him to be at the party either.
