I've never watched TOWIE or the other one, can't even remember what its called so I can't compare. One thing it isn't anymore, is a BB for the Original Fans. I suppose it was due to happen. It won't be long bfore another brill programme IACGMOOH is all done this way too

This was Channel 5's goal all along. They saw the popularity of TOWIE and then wanted their own version, they realised the rights fro Big Brother were floating around after Channel 4 dumped it and decided to work off that instead of creating a new show and it's gradually got worse and worse. It's now solely aimed at TOWIE fans but it hasn't attracted new viewers as instead it's lost many loyal fans.

Agree. Scripted reality has changed the expectation of the younger audience who now want drama, conflict and engineered situations and think relationships developing naturally are boring.

I know I'm old now and BB can never go back but, God, how I miss those more innocent times

Me too and it is the first time I have said this but unless soneone other than C5 takes it over then this is my last year watching as well.

I think some of these nonsensical "twists" that leave viewers are to steer the semi-scripted nonsense back towards the preferred storyline... only the production team responsible aren't very good at it.

Agree with both of you. I liked the subtlety of Big Brother. Ch5 and Ch4 to a lesser degree in the later years, took a sledgehammer to the USP of the concept. I really have very little interest this year but will be happy if one of Christopher, Chris or Ashleigh win.

The I'm a Celebrity comparison is interesting. Now I have to admit to not watching IAC for many years properly, but I tend to watch for a small amount of time then switch off due to the boredom of the stale format.

I do agree that BB has gone too far the other way but I feel sure that, even though I prefered early BBs to the current ones, my favourites were the middle series (5 through to 10) in which they had already started messing with the rules.

As an entertainment show, it would have lost viewers and come off air years ago if it had never evolved.
