Since their single "30 days" cover artwork i thought shit the sats are going to end, but then they returned stronger and got their first no.1 however now not only with the greatest hits album coming up and a tour but all of their posts on facebook i am convinced somethings up i hope its not the end cause the saturdays are awesome, my biggest regret for them was not having had more number 1s they deserved them

Thanks, Also btw I disagree with their chart positions

All fired up should have been no.1 , my heart takes over no.6, 30 days no.2 , gentleman no.8 and not giving up no. 9 at least

I doubt it'll be the end. Remember when Girls Aloud released their first GH album? The album sold so well that they made two more studio albums. This could happen with The Saturdays as well. Britney also released a GH during her career (My Prerogative). It's just that they have enough singles for a GH.

Well, don't worry, both Mollie and Rochelle have tweeted about writing for a new album, so a new album is being planned! I think the greatest hits is just something to keep fans going until the next proper album AND the pre-orders for the greatest hits are doing very well, it's been up for pre-order for a few weeks now and hasn't dropped out of the top 500 at all.
I think the tour is selling not so good but once the album and the single are out and they start promoting I think sales will improve.
Other girlbands like Sugababes and Girls Aloud went onto release many more albums after their greatest hits so I do not belive it is the end.

I know top 500 doesn't sound good, but in comparison Living For the Weekend was out of the top 1000 for pre-orders in a week.
So the GH still being in the top 500 weeks after being put up for pre-order is promising.
The fact that it has all the recognisable hits and has the new single on it, plus the month of release (August is usually a really slow month) means that it has a great chance at getting into the top five, possibly even top 3 if they do enough promotion.

That's right. Sugababes released Overloaded in 2006 and then did three more albums after that, even though the last one flopped. They also went through a couple of lineup changes.

It's funny because I remember making a thread called "Is it the end of The Saturdays?" back in 2009 when Wordshaler flopped. And five years later they're still here.

The Saturdays really, really confuse me. They have no star power, very lack-lustre material, a management that doesn't seem to know what to do with them, and poor to average sales. Yet they're still here... I'm impressed and baffled by this group of hairdressers on a night out.

I think I remember that. I remember loads of people on here, me included, had written the group off back then but it seems we were totally wrong I thought they would get dropped when Wordshaker flopped.

I guess they must be making money somehow, no way their label would have stuck with them this long if they weren't bringing in the cash.

They also have such a large contingent of fanboys on here who seem to think that they have some sort of entitlement to number one singles. They're terrible.

I think they should have more success. They've treated everyone in the music business with respect, are known to very down to earth and humble, have alot of time for their fans, get involved in the songwriting process (Mollie and Una in particular), are decent singers (especially in acoustics where they're fantastic), make pretty good pop/dance music and are one of the only girlbands that actually get along and like eachother. They've been around since 2007 and haven't given up even with their poor sales and radio abandoning them. They have kids and are still working.

I don't think they're "entitled" to number one singles but I do think they should have more sales considering the quality of their music (Not Giving Up and Disco Love in particular were fantastic).

Barely any of this is relevant to musical success.

Also, I don't think them getting involved in the songwriting process, as you claim, is anything that warrants success. They quite clearly don't write their own songs. This isn't a bad thing, but the whole Beyonce write a word claim a third trend many artists and groups follow these days is ridiculous.

Well Mollie wrote for the Backstreet Boys and her, Una, Frankie and Vanessa have all wrote and recorded their own solo songs so I'd say it's a bit more than that. Mollie and Una also went into detail about how they wrote tracks for their On Your Radar album.

Una actually has a solo EP out on iTunes. It's called Sorry and it came out in 2006. It's more acoustic music than pop though.

The Saturdays have been "ending" for about 5 years now, so I don't think there's much to worry about. I think they'll keep releasing enjoyable MOR pop music for a while yet.

Ever since the release of On Your Radar, their career has been bleak. Releasing subpar dance music instead of going back to their pop roots and original sound.

They might be working on album #6 but that doesn't mean it will be released. There are many acts out there who record material for albums that never see the light of day. I do think now would be a good time for them to call it a day. Both Radio 1 and Capital have snubbed the new single and things are it's more than likely the greatest hits will debut high and then plummet down the charts.

Two things do make me laugh that the Saturdays rabid fanboys bring up. Number 1 that they genuinely get on. Why does that matter (if it is true)? En Vogue and TLC were two of the best girl groups of all time and they fought like cats and dogs. Number 2 that the girls supposedly contribute to the songwriting. Do they really think any of the girls compose the lyrics or melodies, or is it more of a case that they get a credit for changing a word here or there?

They've said they will contue as long as fans want them, they still have hardcore fans that will buy their singles and albums and go to their concerts so as long as that stuff is still profitable I guess they'll continue on.
