DEBATE: "Good vs. Evil" on BB
Kromm
23-07-2014
In another topic someone made the following statement to support their candidate for show winner....

Quote:
“Good always triumphs over evil in the end.”

With respect, I personally can't help but be amazed at a statement like this.

It's my contention that there is no good vs. evil on this show... because good people don't apply for shows like this. If not "ever", then so close to it that it's a fairly consistent rule.

But the suckers, er, I mean "viewers" apparently want "binary" storytelling--to the extent that they'll have huge internet wars over interpretations of these creeps to bolster one person or group as "good" and others as "evil". Well I'm not defending the "evil" side in the least. I'm debunking the idea of a "good" one. You know where the good people are? Not here on this show. Look around your own lives more for them instead!

I agree with you. It's the Ashleigh is a princess and Helen evil thing. To be frank they both have had their moments of good and bad but evil .......

Life, and BB takes all sorts, IMO, I don' t feel I come across too many total angels or devils in either.

The viewers are not suckers. Like in any other media everyone enjoys a good story. In order to have a good story there needs to be an antagonist---the worse the better and a protagonist--the best the better. HOWEVER the antagonist and the protagonist must be evenly matched: i.e. it is no fun when the "bad guy" is totally a wimp compared to the "good guy" and vice versa. In my opinion, the BB show is no fun at all without the forum. On the forum we love to create our "good guys" and "bad guys" and rally them as the very best or the very worst---because it's FUN. If it wasn't fun there would be nothing on this fourm except the pins and BBOTS announcements.

what do you mean Ashleigh isn't good, she washes her hair in Tinotei under waterfalls, and Helen is a feral child, get into the spirit of the thing at least, the producers are taking half the fun out of without us helping them?

Precisely. Nothing to do with Big Brother - no-one is completely good and no-one is completely bad. Every person that ever was and ever will be is both more complex than this and nobody is without flaws.

Want some examples - just read about some people's lives. Gandhi is maybe a good place to start thinking on the topic. Well, I think so...?!

It's rubbish.
I 'like' people who I find engaging and entertaining for whatever reason; and those can be any amount of supposedly 'bad' reasons such as having a caustic tongue, or being manipulative, or being loud and shameless.

Have you come to save our souls?

It's RTV it's point and laugh or point and scowl, it's exactly what you want it to be.

Suckers and 'binary' is condescending, are you sure you wouldn't be more comfortable on a more intellectual forum?

We are really not worthy

That's true, but some find it easier and more rewarding to be good, others find it easier to be bad.

It's all about control, self control versus self importance.

Bring up children to understand that they are part of the world, not the centre of it, that could be a start.

In my simple way of getting through life........there are sides to every person........luckily I have no truly evil people in my life, some very kind and thoughtful ones, but even they can do things I am not keen on.......and I suppose I am not everyones cup of tea. either........

Luckily I have never come across a Helen.......I have no problem with prostitutes, just nasty loud-mouthed tarts who think they are entitled to make others' lives a complete misery......

When I was a toublesome teen who thought I knew it all my poor mother used say to me ''show me your company & I'll tell you what you are'' and ''water will always find it's own level'' and ''lie down with the dogs wake up with the fleas''

It was only years later when trying to steer my own kids in the right direction that I realised how right she was.

It's easier to be bad, especially if surrounded by bad people. It requires a lot less effort.

It's easier to be good if surrounded by good people. The trick is finding & recognising them.

Totally agree, both have their good and bad points, but wouldn't ever describe either as evil. No matter how much I dislike their behaviour in the house, nasty and bitchy yes, but evil? No.
