Should the Advertisers/Sponsors be Boycotted/Petitioned?

As most people know, Oathy & others have tirelessy fought on behalf of BB fans by contacting BB producers & Ch5, in the hope that between them they would come to their senses & stop ruining Big Brother, as well as campaigning for return of livefeed.

So far, even though they have been assured that their concerns are not falling on deaf ears it seems obvious to me that these replies are mere platitudes.

One thing that confuses me is that on one hand the producers seem hell bent on catering for the, how shall I put it?...less conservative of the audience spectrum (Geordie Shore/The Valleys etc), whilst on the other hand Ch5 rely heavily on sponsorship & product placement revenue aimed at the opposite type of audience, or at least their parents. I'd hazard a wild guess that voting revenue is miniscule.

The very people that are being targetted by the sponsorship & product placement (online casino, hair products etc) are not the same section that Ch5/production team are targetting.

I wonder is it time to forget about contacting Ch5 & the production company with concerns & go straight to their revenue streams to voice concerns about how the show has been desecrated & completely destroyed? Threats of cutting off their income streams may be the only way to force them into listening to their viewers.

This isn't about Ashleigh, or Helen, or Pauline or any individual HM - it's about the show itself.

Bombarding these companies with individual emails stating that unless they put pressure on Ch5 to sort things out that they will boycott their goods & services might be one way of finally getting them to listen, or is Big Brother now a completely lost cause?

I'm confused - were still watching and all getting the sponsors to pull out will do is cancel the program. There are things I am not enjoying about the program this year chiefly the lack of proper noms but I actually think it has been an interesting cast and series.

You argue that it has nothing to do with Helen\ Ashleigh etc. then why mention it.

Times change ..... seriously, if people are really that unhappy with the show and the direction it's been taken in, simply just don't watch it?

Is it really so important when there are real things going on in the real world?

I mention it as I'm a fan of the show, & for clarification purposes in advance of a throwaway remark.

You seem to have got my point though. Yes, the show would be cancelled if sponsorship was pulled. As I pointed out threats of pulling sponsorship might make them sit up & listen to viewers.

Exactly. People can be bothered to petition about perfectly legal decisions on a TV show but not about the thousands of important and deadly issues going on in the world right now.

They don't listen to us. Never have done and never will. Although I have loved every series things have to move on. BB1 would have people switching off these days.

Why would anyone bother to boycott over THIS silly show?

The answer is tune out. Don't be a viewer anymore.

People complain about things they are not happy about all the time. This is a BB forum - not an 'important and deadly issues' forum.

Attempting to belittle other people's opinions about BB on a BB discussion forum & dismiss them as trivial, & comparing BB to 'important and deadly issues' is futile & rather insulting imo.

Isn't it only Super Casino that sponsor the show now?
Boycott them by all means and you'll find you've got more money in your pocket at the end of the month

I don't think the issue is whether or not people can or should complain. The issue is that a boycott is asking others to make that jump from moaning and groaning into real world action, and it seems like a silly waste of resources and mental and physical energy. Sure those people can ASK others, but if the responses are "why should we bother" that's a pretty reasonable response given what's being asked.

I'm not saying people should not complain on here (although it is getting tiresome imo) but I come on here and watch BB to get a release from all the bad and serious issues going on in the world not for it to be treated like another serious issue with boycotts, silly petitions and letters to sponsors.

I agree. That's why I posed the question in the thread title ''Should the Advertisers/Sponsors be Boycotted/Petitioned?'' That's the question I asked along with is Big Brother now a completely lost cause? I didn't ask anyone to do anything & I'm confused as to why you seem to think that I did

I'm more inclined to switch off. I can't live without my L'Oreal. Seriously, I love the stuff, all the other sponsors, I don't care, but please not my hair care.

PS I have never and will never shop at Aldi, or play any SuperCasino. I'm not their target demographic I guess.

There were plenty of emails, letters and phonecalls to sponsers and massive petitions when LF was taken

didnt do much good then and it wont now

As above really, there are more important things in life than BB. The low rent sponsor wouldn't give a flying fig what happens on the show, as long as they increase revenue, which they will..

I'm with you on the Casino bit, but Aldi is trendy among the middle classes..
