What is it that makes us on the forum view the show differently to the public

I'm talking about the times when DS has been drastically wrong with situations such as evictions and the winner.

One example I always think of is Courtney in CBB12. She was the forum fave and was leading all the online polls, yet was evicted right before the final.

Matthew is also a good example, where we all thought Ash was a goner.

What do you thinks makes us view the show differently to the public so that we get these sort of predictions wrong.

Is it that we general watch all the time while the public might just watch occasionally and vote on the spot?

We are drawn from the public, so we share the public's range of behaviours.
Like the police. The police are recruited from the public, so they include a proportion of shysters and criminals.
That's what they always say, anyway.

Last time I checked I was a member of the public.

We actually watch the programme as opposed to random people watching on a Friday and voting without any real thoight.

Sometimes the votes are just very close. Other times the producers of the show can mislead the public on who is actually popular. The X Factor does this all the time, so does BB.

Maybe it is because the posters on here just wind each other up and hype up HMs to each other. It is like a snowball, growing bigger and bigger on here. Normal viewers only chat with their family and friends and don't get so het up about it all. Their opinions are more naturally formed.

I think that a lot of the time, we know that the person we are backing is unlikely to win, but overall
I think that forum-faves have usually made the finals and often the top 3.

because we get to see the video's on their site, where as most of the public just watch what BB show on the TV.. I have seen so many video's on line but are never shown on TV.

This.......and the fact that when it was live, the fans watched at every opportunity whereas others did as you say above......just watched on a Friday and voted......

.......we also have FMs who are good enough to look up details that BB omit to tell us about, and get a truer picture of HMs.......plus putting up threads to read......that is why I like this forum and its members........

Edit.....Oh blow it is far too hot to think........I meant......FMs putting up LINKS for us to SEE........time I got a grip........got really peed off on another thread......

Polls are never a good indication of how the public vote & nor are the bookies. Most bookies probably base their odds on polls with one or to other methods added too. Polls are available for any of the public & it isn't conceivable that some people that don't even watch the show won't just click to ruin a poll & make it become irrelevant! It happens a lot in other reality tv so why not BB?!

because the public outside of DS and other BB forums dont act like a hive

we buzz with our opinions and go with the most popular opinion those that dont agree either just shut up and only post on topics where they will not be jumped on or just sit and read until their point has been proven or their favorite is saved or wins

To be honest I am surprised anyone votes at all, it is so manipulated, perhaps very few people are making the decision. I vote on the polls but I don't pick up the phone, and I am sure I'm not the only one.

I think its the extra clips we watch on channel 5 and youtube etc. None of my friends watch them and I am always the one with extra information.
majority of people just watch it each night, whilst members of forums tend to want to know all.

I find on here I agree with the majority whilst with my friends, I don't and debate more lol

If you are a regular visitor & member of DS it's impossible to just watch every night & ignore the Channel 5 exclusives even if you want to because there is always some idiot ready to spoil it for you!

I disagree with the hive analogy. A hive shares a common goal and does not go to war with itself. DS is more like a territory where a number of different ants' nests compete. And this is not accurate either, as the war can be lost on the forum, but won on the show, when unpopular housemates win.

Hurrah for Big Brother! The pseudo-soap that slips from your grasp!

People vote having hardly watched the show? They must enjoy giving their money away then, I've watched every one yet wouldn't vote.

Digital Spy attracts opinionated people with actual views of their own. (that's a positive not a negative)

We are not silly little 140 character twiterers who need to follow popular opinion and we don't live our lives with rose coloured glasses. People who live with their heads in the clouds and sit back and take everything without question are not the type who would fit in here.

So here we are, calling Channel 5 out on the crap way they run this show and what we think of the showbiz lovies currently in the house.

I think that's absolutely right, particularly the 'winding up' part. For example, I now hate Ashleigh quite a lot, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't if I wasn't reading this forum.

Pauline, on the other hand, I'd have detested whatever.

The other thing is that on here, people tend to support 'outsider' types, whereas less obsessive viewers often seem to favour more 'normal' HM's. Hence Ash beating Matthew, say.

People on DS are probably way too involved with the show and are passionate about it.

I doubt if the people who are more casual about it would blink if BB just ended tomorrow, they'd be like 'what was that TOWIE show called again?'
I don't agree about their opinions being naturally formed, they'd probably just hear something on BOTS and take it as gospel because there's not much else to go on.

Look at ch5 shows. Thing like the boy with no face, the boy with no skin, the 30 year old baby and on and on. It's the Victorian freak show for the 21st century and clearly there are still a few people out there who find this very entertaining and I suspect they are the majority of the viewers of BB on ch5.

you hit the nail on the head. I am a big Ashleigh fan but having just read that BB are making her into an underdog cos they have her lined up as the winner, I'm now thinking I'm being manipulated so have gone off her a bit. Whereas just talking to family and friends she is still a firm fav. I remember when Freddie was being hyped on here to be the winner ( and I hadn't read the forum for most of the series because it lost it's sparkle for me when they axed live feed ) I couldn't understand it cos to me he was just an idiot.

We're opinionated stubborn people who stick to our favourites regardless unlike the rest of the public who switch depending on the highlights of a show.
