and people only want it because they are seeking approval from others for their views/opinions anyway, what does it matter what others think if you believe in your point? if they agree enough then they will say so, if they disagree then they have a choice either say why, or say nowt, none of that sneaky red arrow or thumbs down cowardice,

who agrees? ..........oops....”

It amazes me that anyone would think others are interested in what they like or dislike, agree or disagree with.
Why they hold those views now that might be interesting and might contribute to discussion.

What if nothing more needs to be said, and if explaining why you agree would mean repeating what was in the original post?

I'm sure people could give some different opinions on why they agree with something in a first post. Posters on here have managed to do this okay so far.

Agreed. This is not Facebook. It is a discussion forum, not a place where we judge ourselves and others by how many 'likes' they get. It's childish and tacky.

So three whole pages basically agreeing and disagreeing with the original post, with very little extra input (apart from my interesting points).

Could have saved a few digital trees there.

I use the Like button on another forum, and I'm certainly capable of conversing. It doesn't stop discussion, it's just a way of saying you agree with someone without wasting a post just saying "I agree" or "This", when there is nothing more you want to add.

Wouldn't want a "Dislike" button though, as you really need to give a reason why you disagree with a poster.

No. Don't give them ideas. Next it will be GIFs & avatars.

I like the green up arrows and down red arrows on the Daily Mail website.
I always get rid of the Show By Date on comments and read the Most Rated for my kicks

There's already a 'dislike/disagree button'. It's the red 'alert' one...
