Are contestants paid or given an allowance?

Any idea?

No more to ask really

Yes they get a per diem allowance. It used to be £30 per diem some years go. No idea what it is now.

Per*diem*(Latin for "per day" or "for each day") is a daily allowance for expenses—a specific amount of money an organization gives an individual, often an employee, per day to cover living expenses when traveling for work.

It will therefore vary between housemates according to what they would be losing individually.

I would imagine that Steven is on **** all.

It's a common expression used in relation to payments made in addition to salary and is the Latin for per day but is called a per diem allowance.

Per diem... latin for daily allowance.

BBUS contestants in comparison get $1000 a week.

Excuse me?

Steven Goode IS BB. His reality knows no bounds.

Therefore his appearance fee will be circa £250k++

As far as I know, contestants are paid a wage for the length of the whole series, regardless of when they are evicted (though the amount will drop when they leave). The HMs need financial security during these weeks. They are contracted to Endemol and can't get another job until the series ends (without breaking their contract, obviously)

I've often wondered about HMs who live alone, who looks after the place? Is it Endemol's official responsibility or what?

If you have a dog or cat, Iain Lee will go round every day and feed/walk it.

I doubt that because that would involve deducting tax and NI contributions and doing all sorts of paperwork. Far easier to pay a per diem allowance which is not a wage.

Lots of people live alone and have pets and go away. They make arrangements. That's what adults do. Why should Endemol be responsible?

But going on holiday for a week or two isn't the same as going away for up to three months with every burglar in the land knowing exactly where you are. I wonder, also, how your insurance company would feel if all you did was make vague arrangements with a friend to pop round every now and again. It's as if your employer were to send you away from home from a long time; surely they can't just leave you to it? Or can they? That's what I was pondering in an idle moment, but I don't want to make a big deal of it.

I was wondering because Kimberley must have been paid considering that she is based in LA...

Bit unnecessary... It helps to have a definition on the thread in case anyone else isn't sure.

Lots of people have to travel for extended periods for work. I imagine if they live alone they arrange for a friend to house sit and or pet sit. Bills can be set up on auto pay and BB can deposit their per diem directly into their accounts. I'm sure BB counsels them on this stuff before they go in. I remember reading years ago a few of the BBUS contestants had troubles going into collections and stuff after they left the house.

You lose your pay if you breach your contract by walking.

Kimberly either left because she was ill (she'll get paid) or because she walked (she won't get paid).
