The fact that they are friends does not mean that they share responsibility for things. They each are responsible for what they individually say and do.

I didn't know that Chris was now the devil, but even if he is seen in a more negative light, this is due to the point above and also people's subjective opinions (which there is no accounting for really).

Not to me he doesn't. He shows signs of some admiration for her. But after being shut up in a house with the likes of Me Me Me Steven, Arrghhh my eyebrows Mark and Helen and Ash who use the f word like pauses between words I expect Ashleigh is beginning to look like Richard Dawkins in the intelligence stakes. Plenty on here admire her certainly.

Plus she is a very pretty girl and he is a 33 year old man. Its hardly surprising if he admires her. But to extend that to him having inappropriate designs on her seems to be flogging an imaginary agenda.

A bit of an exaggeration, I think. Did you see her do the simple BOTTS knowledge test?

Its all relative you know.

But how I wish I had used Einstein, in my first comment, now.

You are entering the Dark Side on this forum, beware. You are raising the possibility that the girl might be using the boy. Good goddess!

Nah it's mutual. A good relationship is one where you're using each other about the same amount in different ways. They might not even consciously think they're pairing up to reach the final, but that's what they're doing. From her side, he's a far, far better pick than Toya or Danielle.

It certainly would have held more gravity!

This is a good point, but it assumes that the housemates would be 'on theme'. I suspect that they are behaving more or less as they would if the theme was completely different - finding alliances and friendships where they can and where it comes most naturally.

There are exceptions to this of course, but these tend to be quite conspicuous. Ashleigh and Chris look about as genuine a friendship as you could get in that place.

So nobody has actually answered why Chris has become the devil all of a sudden, whilst Ashleigh's popularity has grown..............when both have essentially done the same thing.

I.e.
Ashleigh....bitching behind people's backs
Chris.......bitching behine people's backs.

Both together.....bitching behind people's backs.

But Ashleigh becomes favourite whilst Chris is being slated left, right and centre.

It's stuff like this that makes this forum fascinating.

The very idea! You know this never happens. Girls using guys? Perish the thought.

From what we have seen of Ashleigh she needs a sounding board or a bitching partner ( she doesn't like being alone in her thinking ) but I also see her using Chris this way (the new Danielle) for support while she slowly sidesteps her way towards the other crew; this could be an unconscious thing too as I believe her natural inclination was always to fit in with Helen and Ash. If she had to sacrifice Chris and given full approval from the cool gang for the last few weeks, I think she would. She must also know that Chris is a bigger threat to her actually winning. If she was in the final with Helen, Ash, winston and Mark she would have a better chance of winning the 100k

Perhaps, but I believe these housemates this year were chosen with this theme in mind. They probably were measured for their ruthlessness and game-playing skills. That's the way it seems to me anyway.

Of course they were. Even young 18 year old teddy bear holding Ashleigh.

Where I come from a 33 year old man hanging out with a teenager is head turningly strange at best and unsavory at worst. Now, this isn't commentary on Chris and Ashleigh because they've clawed onto each in a highly stressful, isolated situation. But generally, a 33 year old career man is going to have nothing intellectually or emotionally in common with a teenager and there's only so many other conclusions one can make about his motives.

Forget the ages, look at the people.

Ashleigh is very young for her age, Chris is very old.

Why people keep saying Ashleigh is mature for her age when she has consistently exhibited the behavior of somebody very immature I will never understand.

Her latching on to an individual in order to reinforce her own views and deflect her own insecurity is classic behavior of the young.
It's little girls and boys who desperately need a "best" friend.

Her judgemental attitude to the other women is more a reflection of her immaturity than anything they do.
As is her security blanket of "I have a boyfriend" almost the first thing I remember her saying.

As for Chris, a bitter, disappointed man and that attitude sucks the energy from a person so they always appear older. They lose the enthusiasm for the new and for change as they convince themselves it wont work out how they want it to.

You're right about Chris. I know there's such thing as a "young" 45. But Chris is very much an old 33. He's serious and sensible and settled and mature and indeed he seems a little caustic and bitter like he's been browbeaten by life. That places him even farther away from Ashleigh in terms of personality, interests and compatibility. I can just imagine Chris's flat decked out with "interesting" knickknacks, vintage items, a cuckoo clock and robust furniture covered in protective plastic.

But I don't think Ashleigh is immature. She's 18. I expect her to be bratty, entitled and selfish so I can't criticize her for it. I think she is at an acceptable mental maturity in relation to her age, but anyone trying to paint her as more than that is reaching.

I found his arselicking of Helen even more nauseating. Why does he constantly need her approval?

Yeah, it not exactly eloquent, is it. It tends to conjure up some sickening mental images.

This thread is nauseating. I'm a (very young looking) 42 year old woman; among my very closest friends are a 78 year old man and a 22 year old woman. Surprisingly enough, I'm neither a groomed victim nor a predatory lesbian.

You people really - REALLY - need to grow up. Once you pass the age of 14, you realise that friendships come in many different forms.
