Matthew and Toya - An odd alliance?

Am I the only person who finds the friendship/pairing of Matthew and Toya surprising?

Toya demands to be listened to. When she is speaking, which is quite a lot, she expects the world to fall silent and to listen. She can interrupt but woe betide anyone who interrupts her. Some of what she says is sound enough but the delivery is unreasonable.

From what we have seen of Matthew's character I am surprised he tolerates this. I would have expected him to find her behaviour in this respect as unacceptable as does Helen's behaviour.

Yet there appears to be some sort of meeting of minds.

As they would say in The Sopranos, he got flipped

I agree it is rather odd. I think it's simply a 'marriage of convenience' - they both want to stay in the spotlight and I suppose there's strength in numbers and they're playing a kind of 'Toxic Twin' role.

They had an explosive row in the house - I don't think it'll be long before they're at each others throats again. I suppose they've calculated that it'll make good copy in the trashy mags at a later date.

What unites them is their unstinting belief that they're boyh so much better than anyone else. Ironic that they've both been voted out

Not surprising. They've both shown the ability to listen to others and share similar opinions. They were clearly very close from early on in the house, and not much has changed.

Matthew claims to be very intelligent. Toya can just about put two sentences together don't see what they see in each other either.

Absolutely!!!

It matters not a jot that they don't listen to anyone because they both talk over each other.

She needs to be whacked, and go sleep with the fishes, Big Pussy style.

Sporanos aside, I agree with the OP that it is an odd alliance and one that reflects worse on him than her. In a way he has dumbed down and become the more passive part of that partnership. Toya rules that friendship as top dog, and it's not even close.

I think I tend to agree with this but it wasn't till he left the house that my opinion on him did a U-turn. Though I always suspected he was a bit of a Luke Marsden. He held it in quite well in the house. I did quite enjoy his acidity ... and probably why he and Toya connected so well. Though his was much more subtle and less dramatised. Bitterness I can't abide!

I like both of them they both should still be in the house and probably would have been if it was Vote To Save .

spot on! They are both full of self importance and think anyone who doesn't bow down to them is inferior

'Claims' being the operative word! Matthew is well spoken and people presume well spoken people are intelligent, Matthew has bought into that and ties to claim he is intelligent at every opprtunity.

He places spelling and grammar high on his list of essentials to be intelligent, yetn judging by his tweets and recent articles he has a very weak grasp on that himself.

Both of them think they are highly intelligent, both believe the other ones claims so think by being close to that person they will appear intelligent by association, when in fact they are both thick as the proverbial.

That coupled with the fact Matthew is a cowardly bitch and Toya is a gobby bitch, Matthew uses her as a mouthpiece and Toya uses him as a disciple - something she believes she should have more of.

I can absolutely see why she likes him. She sees him as intelligent and she wants to see herself as similar. I think she looks up to him, and like any narcissist, she thinks he makes her look good.

But I can't work out the draw for Matthew. Maybe it's the fact that awful as she is, she does have some charisma. He may not have had many people like Toya paying him attention. Maybe he's flattered by her high regard for him. I suspect if she'd treated him like she does everyone else, he'd view her like most of us do. But the ego is a powerful thing.

I don't think he's her disciple. I think it's mutual. She values his intellect and sees him as like-minded. He values her fearlessness (I don't believe he rates her intelligence as equal to his own like she does).

But I agree they both have self-importance in common.

They both get something out of the other that they wish they had more of themselves as individuals.

Toya sees Matthew as the kind of person she want;s to be seen as- well spoken, educated, intelligent

Matthew sees her as strong and assertive.

Neither are really anything more than the sum of their parts.
I actually have some time for Matthew and think he had decent potential, but he totally ballsed up by getting into bed (as it were) with Toya. He's weaker and more easily led by her than I would have initially thought.

Whilst Matthew has faults, Toya needs a proper wake up call/ reality check. The woman has ideas (and attitude) well above her station.

Yes this makes sense

And unusually, given your characteristically anarchic style, so does this.

Agreed! I also find Matthew's continuous negative comments about Helen's boobs extremely distasteful. He comes across as a bitter and unpleasant man.

I think their problem is actually very simple - they're both bitter about being evicted while people they regard as inferior are still there. Matthew's ongoing comments about Helen's boobs are as "vile" as anything she has ever said to him. It's not even "telling it like it is" because her boobs are fine.

I totally agree with you on the bitterness. It's really not a good look AT ALL for him. He needs to let it go, get over his near obsession with Helen and move on.
