Haha. I forgot to track that thread so I haven't actually seen any of the replies to it. And so I forgot I even started it.
I'm interested that you're now the one making assumptions, viz that I'm looking for a specific answer. I'm not.
It was just something that occurred to me when I saw all the negativity towards Pav. I don't get it. He's no worse than any other housemate.
I also deliberately didn't use the word "racism" because I'm not really thinking of racism per se. I'm more thinking about cultural differences. People like people who are like themselves. We see this clearly in the house. There are the cool ones -- mostly the good looking ones -- who all hang out together, and then there are the others who've formed a clique of their own in response to their exclusion from the cool group.
It's overwhelmingly clear that people judge others based on looks. Winston is enormously popular despite being as dull as ditchwater and a laddish, sexist fool. But he's good looking so a lot of people think he's great anyway.
This is as legitimate a thread as any. The whole of this forum is about discussing housemates, their relationships with each other, and what we think of them and their relationships.
We're on a sticky wicket if we're not allowed to talk about race in this way. Others have observed that women seem to be evicted disproportionately. Are we not allowed to talk about that, either? Straight people seem to be evicted disproportionately, too. Is that off-limits?
I think it's interesting to note patterns and then to think about what they might mean.
I don't think engaging in such discussions makes a person racist, sexist or homophobic.
You don't know whether I'm black/white, male/female, gay/straight, so it's not easy to figure out my "agenda", assuming I have one.
