Marcus came on these forums after he was booted out... he was a strange one.

I'm glad I wasn't on here in Noirin's year, to be honest; apparently MARCUS was a forum favourite! Seriously?”

Oh god, it was awful. I felt like Alice stepping through the looking glass, where a perfectly nice young woman being harangued by a grown wolverine-wannabe toddler in a vest was the devil incarnate. It was weird.

It didn't help that other favourites like Freddie, Siavash and (popular for 5 minutes) Bea took against her. Not until Hazel have I seen such a skewed and disproportionate level of criticism aimed at one person. It really showed me the inherent sexism on the forum, where men get an easier ride for doing far more.

Sadly it was the women of the forum throwing the most vitriol... Which made me sad as a woman.

Anyone with me on this?”

Yes.

Grudgingly

Her features were coarse and a little vulgar, for want of a better word. Her makeup gun setting didn't help matters either

They both played a shit game

Sexual/flirty girls never come across well to most viewers, especially in the way Hazel and Noirin did it

So neither were popular with the viewers, therefore they played a shite game

It's quite unsettling to think about what the main distinction between Hazel and Noirin, and Kim is (nationality).”

I hadn't considered that. What a weird coincidence...or is it?

I figured it's a combination of things, like Kim being very passive and seemingly controlled by Steven, who's universally loathed in a way the other guys weren't. He's so bad she got sympathy instead of reproach. I think if it had been another series and another guy, the pitchforks would have been out for Kim. Michelle Bass lost a lot of cache for the table episode and for being the bunny boiler Steven is.

Kim was also quite placid and didnt 'flaunt' her sexuality directly at 'her prey' like Hazel did, or capitalise on her evident charms like Noirin was seen to be doing.

It's just really clear to me that the world of DS generally doesn't like sexually assertive, smart, self confident beauties whether they do or don't put out. They can't really win. It's OK to be pretty but by god, you have to be dumb or unassuming or beyond reproach or hitch yourself to an awful bloke (e.g. Sophie and Kris).

I actually really liked Hazel by the end, she could be fun and I think she was by far the most interesting housemate from that year, far more than the ridiculously overrated Dexter and Gina.

Noirin though I couldn't stand by the time she had gone. Good housemate and all that, but I found her vain, self-absorbed and a bit shrewish.

they both became the top talking points of their years through the games they both played so i disagree with this.

As for people moaning about the thread- it's more interesting than many current ones, and there are always old ones that pop up so I really don't know why people would have any problem with it, let alone take the time to come into here to actually post.

I'd tell people to jog on too. ”

i found the wolverine guy so cringy when he thought he stood a chance with her. As as for people complaining well they only come on here to complain anyways so let the sheltered ones have their day in the sun

Wasn't Noirin the top female in BB10 for quite a while?
Granted she didn't have much competition in that regard, but for the first half of the series she seemed to be the female that had the biggest chance to win.

Of the three, it was only Siavash she could be accused of 'leading on' but she was called "a prick tease" all over this forum simply for being charming and naturally flirty. Or at least, not when you're a bloke.

As for Hazel...the levels of bile about her were comically biblical. It was like she was this grand Eve character, or the fallen woman, tempting poor Daley and picking on little Gina.

Both times, I felt like I'd fallen into a different era. Neither woman was anywhere near as worthy of criticism as the collection of oddbods who lusted after them. And neither were particular gameplayers.”

Excellent post and I couldn't agree more, especially bib.

I loved Noirin, I agree with people who said she was charming, I never got a sense that she thought she was better than other people (who might be less beautiful than her) and it was funny watching pretty much everyone falling for her. When she left we were left with Rodrigo vs Charlie and Rodrigo and Sophie acting and pretending to be funny in the DR

You noticed?. Its such a burden - "having beauty like wot I have got"

Aha! I knew you two were ladies with good taste!

..well apart from when you are mean to poor defenceless posters like that AOTB guy on the internet .

Other than that, yeah Hazel is overrated.

The episodes following Noirin's eviction were the first time I'd ever lost motivation in watching BB. Every year I'd watch every episode without fail, but Noirin's eviction sucked the life out of that series and completely stopped dead most of the running storylines that had been established at that point.

Looking back, I think her eviction ultimately killed my love for BB a bit - not because she was my favourite ever or anything (though she was my clear fave in BB10) but because by losing interest that year, the habit of watching every night was broken, and since then I've been far more blah about watching each series consistently for ten weeks. Strangely enough, this has been the first year since back then that I'm still actively into a series this late in the run!

I could never see Noirin's looks at all. Funny isn't it, the way some people just leave us cold? It's like the 100% blind spot I have always had over Jessica Simpson. She looks plain to me. I was always amazed a year later when people didn't think Shabby was pretty - I thought she was gorgeous.

I didn't like Hazel much, but some of the comment on here was outrageous. The most disturbing thing was a sense that Daley's support seemed to increase after he was thrown out for threatening to nut her.”

Ironically, Daley got by far the most press out of BB14. The Star just didn't seem to be able to get enough of him, interviewing him day after day. I think the incident tapped into a deep and rather unacceptable male fear: that a woman will cock-tease them, they will lose their temper and hurt her, and it will be ALL HIS FAULT.

Apart from Nikki's eviction, I don't think I have been so relieved by an eviction in my life. I absolutely loathed the way it was turned into the Noirin show, none of it interesting at all.

I think this post absolutely nails it. This is pretty much identical to my view re- esp the dumb and unassuming is ok vs any semblance of confidence, assertion or the worst crime of all, sexual confidence and and it's the death knell.

It's exactly as you put it here and the Sophie example illustrates it perfectly. Her letting her appearance slide over the weeks/ wearing less make up etc also helped a massive amount imo. It sounds awful even to write that last bit but I genuinely believe that it's true.

I think you are contradicting yourself. Sophie's willingness to do a lingerie shoot after BB while still a stone heavier WAS charmingly sexually confident, as she was throughout. It is those who won't appear until they have a ton of makeup on who are insecure.

With respect Ms Donkey, I don't believe I am contradicting myself, although I get what you're saying.

It's like when you see those whatever their names are Chantelle, and the other one Chanel (?) (the Ziggy one) doing the Daily Mail 'oh look at me papped on the beach looking out of shape' vs 6 months later here's my fitness dvd and photo shoot looking all slim/ sexy again. Having a photo shoot on its own is nothing to do with sexual confidence per se.

To me, Sophie (can't remember her surname) came across as more demure, wallflower than confident sexually forward woman, and the fact she was happy to go all casual and not slap on the make upe very day in the house didn't change that..
