Canada follows the American format. It's very good, but nothing like UK BB, other than there being a group of strangers living in a house!

It's terrible and I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Most international Big Brothers are true Big Brother whereas ours is only Big Brother by name and more of a TOWIE clone.

nope ours is more like orwells big brother...
the usa/canada ones are based on "replacement dad" (their more common understanding of the phrase)

ours is no different to any other year other than the people on it have been conditioned by several years of "faked reality" such as top gear and towie and so, especially steven, plan and speak in deliberate "tv ready" lines... but that is not new... it has been a factor since people saw "reality tv" people make careers from big brother like jade and that airport show on bbc... and have "acted up" on big brother for years to get a zlist career.

this year a few people have "woken up" to how x-factor and bb "engineer" events to make it interesting and have not realised voting is not deciding but playing along "interactively" with the show... the question is why did they not see that before? - which brings us to "brave new world" and that being the real entertainment is still there in the show... the gimmicks have changed, and some people "do not see the continuing" entertainment as they never understood it and miss the gimmicks they did like... which is not a "problem" it is just "this is not a show for them"

this series is great... but it isnt the entertainment some thought it was... they need to find another show that is for them... just as not everyone likes what is on itv2 or bbc3 or bbc4 or c4.... a lot out there to choose from.

The Australian one follows a similar format i.e. the housemates nominate and the public votes. They're stricter with rule-breaking too, if I recall. The nomination system is different (but better, in my opinion)- each housemate has 5 points to split between their two nominations - you can give 4 to one and 1 to another, or 3 and 2. The six housemates with the most points then go up for eviction.

Personally the original is the best but if it remains on 5 I'd quite like them to nick the dilemma format or even try the French secret story line for a change.

I'm laughing at your post right now because you are so wrong AGAIN. Our version is pure set up trash aimed at TOWIE fans, everyone knows that.

everyone knows popular tv is and always has been 20 shades of the same thing... or at least some watching BB this year have finally woken up... will they forget it is all b/s when they next watch x-factor or top gear? no.. because the illusion will be enforced by their internalised projections of what they are seeing..

however the core show is still the same... just the bling gimmicks for the mass market have been "identified" as you have said this year... you have only seen one perspective of what the show was about...

Please stop thinking that you are speaking on behalf of the public.

*Yawns,

Big Brother did not need to change to what is now. It was obvious from start that Channel 5 wanted their own version of TOWIE and Big Brother was available so they decided to ruin Big Brother.

If you look at Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc there's a majority of people who actually prefer old Big Brother. Yes there's a few 'OMG Winzton izzz soooo fakin fitt init' types who watch TOWIE too but Channel 5 have failed to poach viewers from TOWIE and have lost loads of viewers at the same time.

There's not really a format to UK BB any more. It's just a sequence of contrived twists, thought up on the hoof in order to stir up a bit of melodrama.

The game, the show, the structure have long since fallen by the wayside.

A few people have mentioned that the Australian BB is a good format, can anyone tell me where I could watch episodes?

Youtube should have all BB Aus episodes from last year, just type in BB Australia 2013

In terms of people suggesting the current BB is more Orwellian than the American one, the name Big Brother was really just a play on the novel, the show isn't really anything like the 1984 aside from the name. Jon de Mol's new show Utopia actually sounds more like the novel 1984 than the show Big Brother.

Big Brother was really just a more claustrophobic version of MTVs The Real World with evictions.

BB Aus 2013 second nominations episode, Tim's nomination for Tully near the end is particularly good
