Imagine The Hat has just been dismissed and you've been appointed new producer of Corrie. What would your plans be and what would you change?

Here's some things I've dreamed up myself:

- Roy's Rolls goes into turmoil: Anna decides to lighten up her workload after Owen secures a huge and profitable contract converting an old building into posh flats in Manchester city centre. Anna decides to keep her cleaning job at the Rovers but quits Roy's Rolls. Roy struggles to find a suitable replacement and ends up overworking himself. Fiz offers to do a few shifts but Roy refuses her help knowing she already has a job and young children to look after. And just when things couldn't get any worse, Sylvia returns from Tenerife to try and reconcile with her son. Roy ends up confused and shaken by everything that is happening and locks himself in the flat for days, keeping the cafe shut and refusing to let anyone inside. The residents blame Sylvia for leaving Roy to deal with Hayley's death all by himself, which leads to a scene in the pub where she breaks down, admitting she had acted cowardly and selfishly. She says that after witnessing her husband Roger's death from cancer, she couldn't cope with the turmoil of watching another person she had grown to love slip away. The residents are sympathetic but insist she must bring Roy back to life. She manages to force her way into the cafe. Roy is angry and frustrated with his mother's sudden reappearance in his life. He says he wishes he'd had Sylvia's support when he needed it the most. Nonetheless, he breaks down in her arms. The two reconcile and Sylvia stays for a few weeks. She eventually moves in with Auntie Jean but takes Roy with her for a long-awaited break. Gail, who is fed up with cleaning, returns to her roots and accepts Roy's job offer as cafe manageress.

- Bringing back Dennis and introducing the Tanners: Dennis returns from his sister Linda's place in Birmingham needing Rita's help - there's a 30-something lad who's been stalking him. Dennis thinks he's a thug who's got the wrong person and is petrified he'll get beaten up for something he hasn't done. Rita agrees to shelter Dennis for the time being but the lad soon arrives in Weatherfield hot on Dennis' tail. It turns out the lad is Dennis' estranged son who last saw his dad when he was 10. The son has a wife and baby on the way. Rita isn't surprised to learn about Dennis having a secret son but she encourages him to talk it out. The son isn't happy with being abandoned by his dad but the two seem to get along well. After a few months, the Tanners decide to settle in Weatherfield and are happy to take Dennis in. Rita is pleased that Dennis no longer seems desperate to get back into her life. Linda comes up for a quick visit and gets acquainted with her brother's family. Linda makes friends with Rita, which proves awkward for Dennis.

- Re-invigorate the Corner Shop: Dev decides the time is right to move on and he puts the shop up for sale. He and the twins move down to London. The Corner Shop gets a new owner, a decent salt of the earth chap in his late 50s with touches of Alf Roberts. He gives the interior of the shop a proper facelift and the place once again becomes a pivotal part of the show as it used to be. The new owner decides to sack Sophie after she gets bolshy with him on more than one occasion. He offers the shop assistant job to Mary and she accepts - much to Norris' annoyance. The two start a rivalry with Norris threatening to sell milk and bread in the Kabin, while Mary decides to stock newspapers and mags. Rita reminds Norris the two shops can co-exist alongside each other and the rivalry cools down.

- Emily, Norris and Mary get a story: Norris and Mary decide to patch things up and go on a camping trip together. They go away for a long weekend and Norris is completely uncomfortable during the whole trip. Mary tries to offer him some moral support in the middle of that night but Norris misreads her signals and thinks she's coming onto him. He ends up running out of the tent and catches a cold in the pouring rain. Back in Weatherfield, Emily has her tea on the hob but nips upstairs to the bathroom while it's cooking. In her haste to get back to the kitchen, she trips and falls down the stairs. She is unconscious on the floor while a small fire starts in the kitchen. Craig is in the back alley and spots the smoke billowing from the kitchen and raises the alarm. Emily suffers from a broken arm and concussion but recovers well and Craig starts to see her as the grandma figure he's never had.

- Other brief ideas: Roy, Mary and Emily decide to organise a Street trip to Blackpool to see the illuminations; Maria decides to leave Weatherfield realising there's nothing left for her; Sean dies ().

REALLY sorry for the paragraphs of nonsense but I got carried away!

But these were just a few ideas that came to mind. What would you do if you were producer?

• Bring in an Australian family (I don't think there has ever been one in Corrie before)

• Give the Windasses a positive storyline e.g. open a shop

• Open a pet shop; with so many pet owners on the street they could do with somewhere local to buy food etc

• Craig and Faye relationship storyline

• Simon violence storyline; this needs to be explored more in soap. I was violent a lot when I was his age and I know some people are and exploring this might help some young viewers get help for it etc

• Give the oldies something to do; ho, iday to France or something

• 60th anniversary gas pipe explotion story

• Explore the history of the street pre-1960

I got quite into this s/l, better than the real thing, especially the bit about Sean!

Very interesting, Catmittens, certainly more entertaining than the present storylines.
My first job, before I had even had my first cup of coffee in the producers office, would be to axe Sophie and Faye, who have no acting talent whatsoever. I would bring back Sylvia, she works so well with Roy. I would bring back Dennis, but not with Rita; I would see him set up home in the street with his widowed/divorced sister Linda Chevesky. I would bring Mavis back to visit Rita. I would have Jim Macdonald released from prison and come back to be reconciled with his Elizabeth, so I would. Jim could run the pub with Liz while Steve concentrated on his cab business. This is fun, if only........

- Break up the Windarses - I've never liked them joined together as a family, it just seems a bit weird, you know the parents and the kids as couples. And it annoys me that that they get endless storylines. I would get rid of the Arse part of the family who in my opinion are the weaker side. I might be a rare breed but I actually like the character of Faye and think that she is played by a very good young actress. However I definitely would abandon the pregnancy storyline as it's just going over old ground, it will never better Sarah-lou's. Also it will ruin the character development of Faye.

- Give the show some social realism - The show just doesn't feel up to date with the business world of the present. I would have Dev leave and have the Corner Shop replaced. bby a Frescho express. I would reopen the bookies but this time have it owned by a franchise and have it licensed to the person running it. Change Underworld and
