Samsung mobile phone division profits plummet.
Literally just watching skynews an they're saying Samsung has reported a massive 21% drop in profits for its mobile handset division. Still made $4billion though so not all bad.

I moved away from Samsung due to the better value offered by the Nexus 5. If they produced a phone with a premium build I may have been tempted to pay the extra but they haven't. I liked the AMOLED screens, SD card slot and removable battery most but the lure of an inexpensive yet powerful vanilla android device that would get updates first and for a sustained period was too much to resist.
I suspect the emergence of affordable high performance phones has been one reason for the slump, not just the cited market slow down. |

Yeah I think the cheaper android options like the Nexus devices really do hurt Samsung. It seems Samsung focused so much on targeting Apple and it's iPhones it has forgotten it's main competition is other Android phones.
You can get phones just as good as Samsungs best phones for half the price from many manufacturers. For a Samsung turn around it needs to forget about Apple and target HTC/Sony/LG/the Chinese manufacturers the Nexus devices. Because these company's are taking sales direct from Samsung. An the market slow down would be more believable is Apple and LG etc weren't seeing increased demand for their products. |
