I think Mark pre judges every little thing he says and does in accordance with what the viewers may think of him. And I think he probably meant to think that comment to himself but said it out loud by mistake, making himself look an even bigger d**k than before.

And then the "see what I did? I let you fight your own battles!" Everything is about him. He's one of the most self involved housemates ever.
