I don't believe that 'she's just happy with the way things are', there are always secrets and twists with the Carters. Perhaps Linda has a secret husband? Thoughts or theories?
Why doesn't Linda want to marry Mick?
It's just so they can have another "shock" reveal followed by a massive wedding.
It's no big deal these days tha they're not married and it's a bit of a stretch to imagine the kids don't know when the family is so close

It is strange that the kids don't know. It's never occurred to any of them that have never seen a wedding photo etc
Given there Mums personality, they know she would want a big bash, big frock and given they know how in love with Mick she is, her wedding photo would have centre place in the living room!
It is odd that none the kids have ever noticed this.

I think she thinks it's because the 'excitement' goes when you're married. That once a man gets that ring on your finger (legally, not just wearing one like she does!) he has you where he wants you, that he gets bored and will inevitably stray. That she's keeping Mick on his toes and still wanting her because they're not married. I'm sure she said that night in the Vic (when Dean overheard them) she made a throwaway remark about husbands cheating, it wasn't emphasised or made a big thing of but I caught it and it made me wonder why she thought that marriage automatically meant men would cheat. Did her own dad stray? Growing up in boozer did she see/hear about other married men straying so was determined never to be the little wife staying at home waiting for her cheating husband to get home?
Either way she has a mental blockage somewhere when it comes to marriage and doesn't want to know but contrarily wants everyone to believe she's married - even her own kids! She covets the 'respectability' it brings but not what she sees as the reality - boredom and cheating!

They had their little kids' ceremony when they were about 13, so I'd say it's unlikely Linda has a secret husband.
I can see Lindas point of view, 15 years i've been with my fella and keep turning him down. married once before and that was more than enough to put me off. I hope they don't make her reluctance in to a big issue.

That's what got me too. Linda as Linda is presented would likely have been dying to get married and have even a simple thing... I'd have thought that she'd have wanted purely the status/name of being Mick's wife rather than having to have all the big white wedding when they could have that in the future as they renew their vows.
It's a little jarring and not in with her personality IMO.

Yep I thought that was the reason they never had an offical wedding because as far as they are concerned this was their real wedding
EE is falling into the same trap as before, when it turned into Branning Square. Now it's Carter Square! After less than a year, they keep incessantly adding new Carters. And the point that I don't like the Linda character, doesn't help. She's an awful actress!

No, I think it was after Lee was born. But the whole thing is a facade. They say, "oh, we've been together for 25 years" but they aren't even married. Maybe they took a break and Linda got married in a shotgun wedding in Gretna Green when she was a single mum to Lee. She still sleeps with Mick and leaves her husband when she's pregnant with Nancy. However, after 21 years, the man hasn't given her a divorce? I think that would be a great twist.

why is it unrealistic? lots of people dont get married these days and live happily together for years and years

Again, some families don't have photos of their wedding out for whatever reason. My kids have never said, "Mum, get the photos out!" I have one photo on display which to be honest is bad enough as it is...my how we've aged!

It wouldn't be a story I'd like to see, but that's just me.
Personally, I like the fact that there's a woman who isn't married because of her choice, instead of women chasing men desperate for marriage when it's clearly a bad idea! *cough*Roxy*cough*
