I decided to re subscribe to sky last week, apparently the card was ordered last Thursday but the viewing card has still not arrived. I've had a new set top box installed though, I wish they would just put the viewing card in the same box as the set top box(!), why don't they?

I've been a sky customer a number of times in the past and I'm pretty sure the viewing card(s) used to turn up within 2 or 3 days of ordering it in the past. The sky agent I ordered it from said about 4-5 working days which have now surpassed and Sky themselves are saying up to 10 working days to get the card! What's your experience been on this?

Because they come from completely different places, and would mean every box would need undoing to insert the card.

As an ASA, we've never seen a card take more than next day, or day after - but the post round here is excellent.

Do you live in a poor post area?.

I've personally had trouble with my post over the years. Up until around 2 years ago, my letters sometimes arrived opened! It took several complaints to get a stop to that happening. I wouldn't be surprised if some green eyed monster who hasn't got sky, saw the envelope saying "your sky viewing card is enclosed" and just threw it away or something!

I've still got my old sky box/card, I'm gonna call sky and ask them if there is anyway that can be activated into the new one but it sounds like from the first part of your post it won't be possible.

How long ago did you cancel Sky? - generally, assuming it's not too long ago, they simply reactivate the old card.

It was about 2 years ago but I think the card is about 4-5 years old now.

I called Sky and the agent, they said they could reactivate the old card and it goes into the new box but I will lose the discounted price that I have. I'll wait for a few more days and then if it hasn't arrived, ask sky if they can send another one by special delivery which they said they might do. If they don't, I might cancel and go with Virgin instead.

I'm sure that was the case with me when I subscribed ages ago too. Something has gone wrong on this one, but what? Anyone know where sky send their cards out from? A different place from their main customer services unit? If so is that why it may have been delayed or should it all have been done quickly by computer ordering which is what I expect it to have been done by.

I would STRONGLY suspect the problem is at your end, you've already confirmed you have postal problems.

Yes but the last set of troubles were about 2-3 years ago.

As a ASA, do you know where the cards are dispatched from and is it all done electronically by computer order and then processed by machine or is it all done by actual people processing everything?

I think I'm gonna call sky on monday and ask them to send it by special delivery on monday. They seem to want me to wait until next thursday but I think thats too long and if it doesn't arrive by Monday, then I doubt it will arrive at all IF it was sent on the 24th which I'm beginning to doubt.

I 'might' have heard where they are normally dispatched from, but if I did I didn't pay any attention It's not really knowledge of any use.

I imagine it's all done by computer though, with little human intervention.

I presume they wait that long to give it time with postal problems?.

I would certainly expect that it's FAR more likely that it's a postal problem than one at Sky, it might have been delivered to the wrong house perhaps?.

The agent did double check my address the other day and even allowing for spelling mistakes, I don't think that could be the case as most computer address searches match it up with the post code and I can't think of any other roads with a similar name unless it was just sent to a different address in general.
