Neighbours- Stability
Neighbours traditionally has a high turnover of cast but the current cast is very strong and I don't see anybody leaving the show in the near future.
There is no deadwood in the show in my opinion although Matt & Josh are the weakest with Matt yet to have a real storyline of his own. The new arrivals - Daniel, Naomi & Paige have been fabulous additions to the show breathing new life into it as their characters all have depth |

He's almost Roger Moore he's so wooden.... Although seriously I think you're almost right... |

I think Josh is the weakest, not a great actor and a dull character. He and Amber have zero chemistry together and so am glad the somewhat tedious "shall I break up with Josh" story is building into something else.
I agree with the OP comments though, and IMO Neighbours is great at the moment as it has a good cast and characters that are developed. Some of the characters irritate me (Amber and Sonya), but only in the way people in real life irritate. I cannot, for the most part, fault the acting. I am looking forward to the Paige storyline gaining momentum. |

Totally agree about the stable and strong current cast, and hope they strengthen Matt's character with a storyline exploring his past/family/alcoholic father. The character needs some depth.

The cast are great at the moment but the storylines aren't the best, there's too many cheating storylines and I remember Neighbours when it used to be a moralistic show were people had long marriages and cheating stuff was very rare. Kyle/Kate/Georgia went on for way too long & what do you know Kyle and Georgia are Ok and nothing bad happened in the end just months of boring hiding it from Georgia.
One of my favourite plots recently was when Chris and the English nurse guy argued over his dog attacking Bossy, it brought up a lot of issues about dog owners and fights & it was something that was so Neighbours. More random stuff like that is why I enjoy it. |

Totally agree OP the cast is really strong at the minute and most actors seem to be committed to the show. Neighbours also has four solid married couples Karl & Susan, Matt & Lauren, Brad & Terese and Toadie & Sonya and in a few months time will have a fifth with Kyle & Georgia. Every other soap seems to be struggling to maintain any married couples at the minute and they all have much larger casts as well. Neighbours has a real family feel to it again just like the old days.

I wish Imogen would leave....she is so irritating. And for a 17/18 year old she seems so immature for her age. It must be because she acts like a spoilt brat who thinks the world owes her a favour.

Does anyone know when Paige is going to reveal who she is? I must admit that story's irritating me a lot at the moment.

Two weeks time for us. Its been good but is now starting to drag on, I agree. Should be good when it all comes out.
Oh what to say about Imogen! She was great before her personality transplant. Going back to the point of this thread the show is the most stable its been for a long time. I hope there are no more major cast changes. |

Josef Brown has not had a proper storyline as Matt, is Matt's Father still alive?

I think the cast feels very stable right now, and it's interesting how that feeling is present during a period where the show's quality is up. Under Susan Bower, the show had a revolving door, and it felt like no-one was committed long term. I think there were some great characters who probably wouldn't have left if a different producer had been in charge (e.g: Steph, Lyn, Rebecca...)
I don't think Brennan is a bad character, or portrayed by a bad actor; I think Scott McGregor does fine with the lighter stuff - he's certainly not wooden like Didge or Ned Parker. Josh has improved a lot as a character, and the acting has gotten better, but he's not really a likeable character. Matt is dull, but has shown signs of improvement. Someone said that there's too many cheating stories, but the only character that is cheating is Amber on Josh with Daniel. That's it. No-one else is cheating. |

Next to leave will be Paige, IMHO. Neighbours now seems to be a training ground for hot young Australian actresses to get their start beofre legging it to the US for fame and fortune. Of the current cast, she seems most likely to take that route. Should be at least a year though.

I am definitely enjoying the current cast of characters. I'd rate it as the best since around 2005 for sure.
Josh, Brennan and Amber were characters I had HUGE issues with just a few months back, but the new EP seems to have 'shuffled' the roles of these characters and has made them into more everyday sorts of people, rather than the caricatures they were for quite a while. Josh is no longer 'big-time swimmer boy', Brennan is not 'city detective' and Amber is just generally less whiny. The two characters that bug me at the moment are Terese and Daniel. Daniel because his purpose just seems to be to 'force in a reference to Scott, Charlene, Henry or Madge', which means very little unless it comes from someone we've actually SEEN interact with those characters before. I dunno, there's this insinuation that he's had a perfect life full of love and leisure. Doesn't make for an interesting character imo. Terese is a character who I just find unlikeable really, she's a stones throw away from being a female-Paul. Cold, immature and never called up on it, which makes her irritating. If there is to be another cull anytime soon, I'd like it to be the Willis clan. |

I think so from the way they were talking about him it sounded like he was still alive. They should introduce Matt's parents for a guest stint and explore his relationship with his dad. They're reaction and attitude to Paige would be interesting as well.

I disagree I think Terese is one of the best characters in the show and Daniel is also good. Daniel's purpose is reintroduce the history of Scott and Charlene into a new generation- we may see his Sister Madison eventually too.
I think Terese would be salvageable if the show once again dropped the focus from the 'Corporate/ management' side of Lassiters, which continually bogs down her and Paul, keeping them in their own boring and repetitive bubble. It worked in the 90's with Paul at the helm in his office with Caroline and dippy Melanie, overseeing Madge and Harold who ran the Waterhole and Coffee Shop respectively. It was a good dynamic, but there's nothing like that anymore. They should have a recurring guest take over that sort of stuff, as they did with Chloe Lambert in the early 00's, or just have it all take place off screen. I don't understand the dislike of Matt. At worst he's a bit dull, but he's not unlikeable, or irritating, he just seems like a 'normal guy' which is what a show like Neighbours calls for imo. He just needs to be used more is all. Soap cops very rarely work and I'm usually always gunning for them to be axed, but they use that side of Matt sparingly, and when he IS in cop mode, he stays in character as nice old Matt. Whereas on Home and Away, you'd have Angelo Jack, Charlie or Peter tearing apart their friends and neighbours in the interrogation room like they've never met them before That used to really piss me off. Especially Angelo (fresh from having killed Jack!) vs Irene in 2009. She should have punched him in the face for that...

I always feel uncomfortable when Therese wears those low cut tops in front of her son.. Therese was practically thrusting her boobs into Josh`s face over the dinner table in the Oz paced Neighbours I watched yesterday.
For those who watch UK Neighbours pace, watch next week and you`ll see what I mean |

Tereses heaving breasts deserve their own cast credit!
