I really cannot stand him. I think he is extremley arrogant and a major know it all. Why on earth does anyone want to know who wrote the song, when it was relased and what position it go to in the charts 20 years ago?? Why does he insist on telling us? I also find it quite sad that he can't take it when contestants argue back. For another example take Simon Cowell, who is quite happy to have the piss taken out of him by the hosts and contestants on Pop Idol/X Factor and who clearly likes have people give it him back. Park clearly didn't like it when Jon Culshaw did an impression of him, and he hates it when Patrick Kielty gives him a piece of his mind.

The only time I ever agreed with Richard was when he was on GMTV talking about the X Factor and basically said Steve Brookstein was crap.

He doesn't always get it wrong, but I agree he does talk rubbish a lot of the time. I think he's trying to be like Simon Cowell in deliberately making himself unpopular, but unfortunately he doesn't have any of Simon's charisma or idea of what's good! What is his background anyway?

He was just on Radio 1, and Colin told him how all the students give a 'toot' whenever he goes off on one of his spiels. He actually seemed to find it quite funny, but said that he was going to nail them for it on the show tonight! Should be interesting...

It's all quite funny now that he's started taking the p*** out of himself for doing it.

I heard somewhere that Richard is the head of Capital Radio and discovered Dr Fox. Did you know that when the BBC first decided to do Fame Academy their first chocie for Headmaster was Pete Waterman!

I agree he is not anywhere near as likeable as Simon.

Hopefully Kielty will give him a nice 'handshake' in return tonight

I'm not sure what he does the rest of the time that makes him so well qualified to comment on other people. Honestly, I'm not being funny. Please tell me what he does that qualifies him to judge other people? What are his qualifications?

Someone already covered that here:

Richard became Head of Entertainment and Sport at Radio Clyde before joining Capital in 1987. Anyone but him. Compared to him, Richard is likeable. Waterman is the most arrogant t**t on the planet imo.

Btw, I read somewhere that Richard is 66. He cant be, surely?

If this is correct (scroll down to about halfway) he's 56, but will be 57 tomorrow.

Quote:
“ Richard Park Born on 10th March 1948 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Richard became a journalist after finishing his education, working on the Fife News. He joined his local pirate station, Radio Scotland, in September 1966 and used Wild Weekend by the Rocking Rebels as his theme tune. This track had originally been recorded as a theme for American DJ Tom Shannon. After his time at sea he returned to his old job at the Fife News but was also heard as a guest DJ on the occasional Radio One Club programme. In 1973 he joined Glasgow's new Radio Clyde and stayed 14 years, becoming Head of Music. He moved to London's Capital Radio in 1987, also as Head of Music, rapidly rising to Programme Controller and then Group Programme Director, overseeing all the various stations owned by the company. He still found time to files reports from London for the programme hosted by his old Radio Scotland colleague John Kerr on station 2UE in Sydney, Australia. In March 2001 he resigned his position at Capital to work as a media consultant. He appeared in BBC TV's Fame Academy. For a biography, details of his various consultancies and your chance to be signed to his record company, see The Richard Park Company web site. (With many thanks to Raoul Verolleman for the photo. There is another picture of Richard here.) ”

Edit: Bwahahahahaha! I just clicked on the last link for the other photo!

Lovely - so he's a consultant - which usually translates into normal speak as a very expensive person who tells you what you already know but it sounds much more important because it's coming from an external source and you're paying a huge amount for it - so it must be important!

Well, now I know!

That sounds more like it. I thought 66 was pushing it a bit. Bet he'll be delighted with the magazine that printed his age 10 years too old.

It's the in-breeding. It's a terrible thing. It can make you bitter and twisted and wretched in public. Oh dear.

Definitely! He and Tubbs have been swimming in the same gene pool!

BTW he didn't 'discover' Dr Fox - he may have hired him at Capital, but Foxy was on Radio Luxembourg until joining Capital in '87 or '88.

I don't know if he's being himself, but he was obviously brought in in the first Fame Academy to be FAs Simon Cowell, "the mean one". I notice now, we kinda have two mean reviewers though .
