I think that may have a lot to do with the age of Lionel and the age demographic BB tend to aim for nowadays who probably aren't as familiar with an iconic character from the 90s.

Amazing isn't it, Chris is now public enemy no 1 and Helen is the best thing since slice bread.

I just mean that Hannibal Lecter was an iconic character in the 90s, with French and Saunders doing that scene with the mouth thing too. But it is a film from about 24 years ago. So when the studio audience saw Lionel doing that Pfftpfft face they may have been scared that he was having a fit or something.

I don't particularly care that they don't like Chris, TBH I can see where they're coming from he has rather blotted his copybook recently (although I don't think he deserves any vitriol).
I do think though that BB could make it so that the panels in these shows are a little more evenly balanced.
It would be fairer and more interesting that way.
