Helen is a street savvy and wily woman with enough smarts to realize that it's end days now in the house and the only way up is to rein in the overt hostility and to appear as considered and as calm as possible.

She isn't quick enough though to hide the fleeting looks of disgust or annoyance that cross her features.

That's the real Helen...still ready able and willing to tear someone's head off.

I agree. As a viewer one will like her a bit more now. She was pretty vile in the beginning until all opposition was voted ( or muted by sheer fear) out nobody wanted that horrible a house to watch during the summer.

For me this whole ticket to the final is the biggest con of all though. There is possibly a contract somewhere in CH5 whereby she gets a free ride to the end and then they'll use her for a side show to tell about her journey/story, well whatever she can tell with all those high court injunctions in place. I know it sounds a crazy conspiracy theory, but why else break the fundamental BB principle. It was no coincidence IMO that it was the most controversial and high 'profile' person who got 'randomly chosen'.

Helen herself said that it has been 'piss easy' to be there. There is talk that she may even have known Ash before (in the papers), not sure how true that is. It is a completely different experience when you are immune to nominations, but still able to nominate others all the way. Must feel really powerful and she has proved it, they all have succumbed to Queen Helen.

Her journey is a paid BB holiday. Unfair to the other contestants.

However...... I do fully understand why people wish to believe so and why many are now warming to her, myself included. Her pass to the final ( regardless of its merits) has allowed Us to see far more of Helen than we would have otherwise (undoubtedly she would have been out in first week or 2). That extra time( no football pun intended ) has given viewers the time and thought to question why Helen is the way she is. She has shown a soft side, and definitely shown loyalty and passion amongst other admirable qualities, none of which detracts from the fact that she is ultimately a bitch. But as we know a little of her past ( the Rooney affair, her past profession, her upbringing etc) many viewers can see why she has become as she has, and whilst I will never see her behaviour as excusable, I can find it understandable.

I feel like if Helen did gain some public sympathy/ acceptance for her softer side but realised that it was qualified by never excusing her aggressive/bitchy behaviour, then she could well take the first step in addressing her character flaws.

I genuinely feel like Helen is her own harshest critic, and whilst she instinctively lashes out at anyone who criticises or disagrees with her, her first step is forgiving herself and understanding herself a bit better. If she could do that, she may well be on the road to her journey.”

1) Helen has apologized.

2) Re the Mathew row, in my view he instigated that confrontation on purpose to spoil the groups fun (it was the noght after the pool party that nearly everyone had been getting along) and Mathew did not like the fact that Jale was now joining in with Helen and the rest of them, and it was the question to Jale and the fact that she was happy to respond that triggered his unnecessary outburst. No one was forcing him to take part in the game, if he didnt like it he could have just left them to it, but no, he had to make his holier than thou comment and he knew damn wel what he was doing.

If the OP and all who agree do not want to think Helen can change, thats their right, but I find it sad that folk don't want to try and see some good in her. I would much rather hope and believe she has changed even if I'm wrong, than take the other hard line unforgiving view.”

I think these posts say pretty much what my opinion is regarding Helen.

Very true AOTB, are people really forgetting Pauline, Toya and Steven, even Matthew since he came out of the house has shown himself to be truly awful.

She has had an easy ride, not a journey. Giving her a free pass has ruined the fundamental nature of BB...but then what do you expect from a sleazy channel like 5

It really isn't as we have no idea how Toya or Pauline would have been over that length of time, no one can tell !

They would be praised for their journeys too no doubt.
I think you can only have a journey if you're there for longer than two weeks.
It's easier to portray a journey when there's more footage to work with.

Yes, definitely, they would be praised by the very ones who are condemning them now in a feeble attempt to compliment Helen.

Toya would have run out of steam by now and be just sitting in the corner with her blue lippy on wobbling her head, awwww isn't she sweet?

I think we've seen that both Toyah and Pauline are even worse now they're out of the house, so I think we do have an idea

indeed it is

and i feel it might also be the more insightful opinion.

which is also my opinion.

Helen may or may not have had a hard life...
but terrible things happen to a lot of people...and certainly over time...everyone has to deal with real crap.

Having a rough life does not give anyone license to treat people like dirt...and i do not, not for one minute....think Helen has changed....only upped her game.
and if enough soppy people believe her...

well she might walk off with all the cash.

She knows how to make people believe she cares....she was a prostitute.

Dunno about Toya (she might have gone on a voyage of self-discovery!) but Pauline had a beserk sense of personal entitlement before the show started; it would only have got worse. Helen, even if you don't like her, is undeniably a more genial character than she was in week one. But picture the monster a 'free pass to the final' Pauline would be, by now.

I don't think Helen has been on a 'journey', as I don't think any Big Brother housemate ever has been on a 'journey' while they were in there.

But, to be honest one reason I like Helen more as time has gone on is all the OTT hyperbole and hysteria from people commenting on the internet saying how she's evil and the devil incarnate, and that there is no chance she might simply have been lucky to get the free pass, it has to be a conspiracy etc etc etc. She's got plenty of faults, I'm not denying that, but she at least acknowledges them and has changed some of her behavior. She's been an interesting housemate, and I'm glad she's lasted a long time in the house.

I also agree entirely that Helen isn't even the worst housemate of this series. Pauline was far nastier than Helen has been, and Steve was far more awful to watch. Nobody has been perfect in there. People seem to be trying to hold Chris as a candidate for sainthood, but he's been sneaky and not above kicking down at people below him in the pecking order like Christopher and Pav. Princess Ashleigh is increasingly showing herself to be a bit of a brat. And I don't even care if it was good for Helen or not that they left, I'm glad people like Matthew, who was a pretentious bitchy weed, and Danielle with her completely contrived personality have gone, not least because of how bitter both of them have been since getting evicted.
