sometimes I shop in Marks and Spencer supermarket - not regularly because it's expensive (although this week I found to my surprise an M&S 2 pint milk was only 89p - much cheaper than the other supermarkets!) - but because they sell food items you can't get in the common supermarkets.

Anyway I've always find the majority of staff at M&S to be friendly, curteous, reasonably intelligent and generally just far classier than staff who work at Tesco/Asda etc.

When shopping in Tesco I generally find staff to be rude, imbecilic, chavvy and sometimes just downright moronic kuckle-draggers. You ask them where to find the eggs and they just grunt at you and point in the general direction....

so it's a shame that Zoe's off the cuff remark was taken out of context and lambasted by the socialist PC brigade

Zoe was class.

The people who work in my Tesco are super helpful. I am a wheelchair user, and they fall over themselves to help. I hate to use the term, but they aren't chavvy, rude, imbecilic or knuckle draggers. They smile and chat like regular human beings; amazing isn't it?

Everybody has a story to tell in life. A lot of very good tv is just regular people telling a story of some aspect of their life-what happened when a clothing factory collapsed on them, what it was like to be in the WRAF during the war, Shop work in the past etc, all on tv in the last week, and all of them a lot more interesting than Zoe.

You don't shop in the right Tescos.

My local store is full of ye olde worlde types who have fascinating stories to tell about when they worked at t'mill and everything. You can't beat that sort of life experience.

On top of that, when you ask them where to find anything, they take you by the hand and walk all the way there with you. Even if what you've asked them where to find is the Town Hall! It's wonderful.

It's usually fallacy to generalize in such a way.

I'm sure there are some extremely hard working and great people who work there or have worked there, and there are probably some real a*holes also and some in between like with most things.

There could be some people who worked there who have amazing life stories and a lot to say and that even could teach her a few things about life..., and the thing is... she's basically dismissing all of that in a generalized way.

I don't think we even have a Tesco in the US, so... i'm basically comparing it to a Giant Eagle or something like that. However... even though i don't have direct experience with Tesco i believe that generalizing in such a way is not usually a great approach to take... even to generalize fast food workers for example, there are some hard working people who might be slaving away in that hell job just to support their child or something... you just don't know everyone's story and why they're at that place or how they got there.

Completely disagree . I find most staff in all supermarkets helpful and courteous .

In my experience the general staff do tend to be less friendlier.

You know what, when I was just out of school, I worked in Tescos for a bit

They make you take a personality test questionnaire - I got rejected the first time and didn't know why ... So I answered it differently the second time

Unlike most other jobs, they're specifically looking for people who don't take initiative - they're basically looking for drones ... Presumably because if you think for yourself to solve a problem (like a wet floor) you might do something against company policy and Tescos might get in trouble ... So they're recruiting androids ... And yeah, there's a certain type of person who works in Tescos (although Zoey's still a cock for saying it - as am I)

I shop in M&S every week, and Asda on occasion and I notice absolutely no difference.

I think it depends on the area where your Tesco is located, in my local Tesco there's only one employee that doesn't seem too happy when you need their help on the self-service tills at night, never had a problem with any of the other staff even at 4am they're courteous and helpful.

Well then that just proves how stupid people are who shop at M&S.

Any supermarket I visit there is always a sign at the isle to tell you what is on the shelves!

If the staff smile and try to help to much that's because they are paid more to do so!

So even tho you think the're being friendly, in the fag brake they will be cursing you to hell!!

You guys do realise that she was looking down on people with normal jobs, and was using tesco as just an example right? That includes mns staff as well.

it's a wonder how Tesco became the biggest private sector employee in the country, if all their staff are the bastards you portray

I honestly can't remember one of Zoe's 'amazing' stories. Did they actually show any?

no, the editors of the show decided her talking about having a dump was more 'interesting'

Ah, those stories were sure exciting then! The only thing I can remember Zoe saying is 'everyone thinks I'm amazing'. Think my brain tuned her out after that.

working 40 hours , standing up all day , dealing with customers who look down on them & are rude. Just to survive.
No wonder some of them aren't happy , it is across the board in jobs not just shops & not just Tesco.
1 bad experience & no doubt a bit of snobbery does not mean what zoe said is true. People in normal jobs work hard , though i agree some shop staff need to cheer up a bit some people actually would love to have a shop job. At least it isnt temporary & has more stability. But then again most people dont choose this has there career it is just a job.

An M&S shopper versus tesco/asda says it all.
Well i think only middle class old people shop in m&s. With more money than sense so there
And i dont even like tesco.
