Google play services- high data usage.
My phone contract has a small data cap of 250mb per month, nearly all browsing and a bit of facebook is done while at home on the wifi, the app Google Play Services is using a large chunk of my daily allowance when out and about- normally about 8mb per day on the mobile data. I have a data manager that tells me what is using most of the data (Google play service) and the forecast usage to the end of the billing month is 1.2gb!!
I un-installed Play services but a lot of the programs on the phone need it to run so had to put it back on. Yes I could pay extra for unlimited internet but it seems a tad unfair to have this program running in the background sucking up data like there no tomorrow ![]() Anyone else know a solution to stopping this data hog? |

Play Services shouldn't really be using that much - I've just checked on mine and it's used a total of 21MB of mobile data in 2½ weeks, so 8MB/day seems excessive. However, you don't say what phone this is, but in the Android data manager you should be able to select Google Play Services and then tick "Restrict Background Data" to stop it using any mobile data allowance at all.
