Why do people have a go at the actors and call their acting mediocre
Have they ever thought it is the character they are playing that they don't like not the actor?
It always seems to be the younger cast, for EE anyway, for example Jaq Jossa who plays Lauren who u think has been fantastic and definitely grown into the actress she now is and is believable
Also to say young actors such as Maisie smith are bad is cruel as they are children and are playing children!
Surely I'm not the only one frustrated at actors being attacked for "ruining a character"???????

The answer is that acting is a very subjective art form and whilst one viewer will find an actor's work very good and convincing, another might not. That's their opinion and they are entitled to it. It's like whether a person is beautiful - one person will think they are, another not - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

How much they should think about the actor's feelings when expressing their views on looks or acting ability is another matter.

Some people won't be able to distinguish between the way a character is being written and the acting performance but that unfortunately won't change. Some people aren't always that intelligent.

I do find the vitriol that some actors get very strange. Totally unnecessary and says more about the people spouting it then the subject of their abuse.

People do get overzealous when insulting the actors.

But quality of acting doesn't have anything to do with liking the character or not.

If it's a fair comment that they're a bad actor or lack range than it's fair enough IMO.

I like Sharon in Eastenders and let's face it the actresses performances haven't exactly been up to scratch since she returned.

Hmm, in terms of DS at least I'd say that might be a touch naive, Joe. How many popular characters, (usually cos they're fit, but sometimes because of their pleasing personalities), do you see regularly slated for their acting on here? I'd say almost none.

I remember some people claiming Lacey Turner and Jo Joyner were "terrible actors playing terrible characters". I've also seen plenty of people criticise Hetti Bywater's acting by calling her talentless yet many were impressed with her final few weeks on screen.

People really need to differentiate actors from characters while also taking into account the writing. An actor can only do so much with the writing and development (or lack of) for their character.

Sorry, but saying people's crap acting is overlooked because of their looks is ridiculous.

David Witts? Jasmyn Banks? Scott Maslen? Rita Simons? Hetti Bywater? Ben Hardy?

Either way, the line you highlighted said that the quality of a person's acting on the show has nothing to do with the character themselves. That's got nothing to do with other people liking people based on looks, that's me saying that acting ability is not linked to the character they are playing. They can either act, or they can't.

I only know two of the people you mention above, lol, so I can't comment on how they're perceived by the viewers or whether or not they can act.

But I do regularly notice that on ED and Corrie at least, it's more the reverse of 'fit' actors' lack of ability being overlooked. It's more that when a character is disliked, (very often sadly because of their lack of looks, but sometimes because they're supposed to be unpleasant characters), then they are often (unfairly imo) derided for being crap actors as well.

That's probably the difference in threads on the forum then, I don't watch ED and watch Corrie very rarely.
