CS - Big storyline for Tony & Jason
I had this idea in my head this morning and thought I'd share it. It's a long read, but I think this would be a good idea for Corrie.
As we know, Todd has been hired at the builders yard. After gaining the trust of Tony & Jason, Todd decides to run away with the businesses money, back to London so he can live the life again. He starts taking small amounts out over the course of a few weeks and isn't noticed by anyone. Todd announces that he is leaving for London again, and even though he is supposedly broke, he is leaving for a fresh start. It has been announced to the press that Todd is leaving, so we all assume that Todd will get away with the builders yard money and flee. We as viewers are watching Todd's going away party, thinking he will just leave in the back of a black cab getting away with the money. However it is revealed that Jason knew all about his plan and Jason being Jason hoped Todd wouldn't go ahead with it. Just as Todd is about to leave, an infuriated Jason tells Tony of Todd's plan. Tony, pretending he knows nothing, asks Todd to meet him in the builder's yard just before he leaves. Todd agrees to this and walks over the yard. Tony grabs him by the throat and tells him he knows everything about his plan and threatens him to give the money back. Todd laughs in his face and calls him stupid which sends Tony into a rage and smashes a pole across his face killing him instantly. Jason witnesses this from the gate and the episode closes as both father and son stare at what has just happened. For the viewers, who thought Todd would get away with the robbery, is left shocked and excited about the surprise. The next episode opens and Tony, realising he can't be sent to prison again, tells Jason to hide the murder weapon or they are both going down, and Jason does, putting his handprints all over the murder weapon and incriminating him. (Tony was wearing gloves). Tony rings the ambulance and tells Jason to go by the story they were walking past and saw Todd there. They are both questioned but Jason is arrested as his handprints were on the metal bar. Tony insinuates he saw Jason and Todd go into the builders yard before Todd was murdered and incriminates him further. Jason is refused bail and is sent to jail. Eileen's life is shattered beyond belief and withdraws from life, becoming a recluse in her own house, allowing for Sue Cleaver to show off her true potential. Tony continues to live in Coronation Street and gains Eileen's trust and proposes to Liz in the Rovers. She accepts and they throw an engagement party however Liz overhears Tony crying in the back room and they have a two hander where Tony confesses to Liz, admitting he thought he could forget about the murder but he can't. Liz is disgusted and threatens to tell Eileen however Tony threatens her with a knife not to breathe a word or she will be killed. Tony packs a bag and runs away. Eileen initially refuses to visit Jason and disowns him in front of a packed Rovers crowd and Liz who struggles to keep in her emotions. However after 1 month she finally relents an breaks down when she sees him in prison. He begs her to believe him and she does. Jason tells Eileen that Tony killed Todd. Eileen storms back to the pub and demands to know does Liz know anything about Tony and when she admits she knew Tony killed Todd, Eileen punches her and knocks her to the floor. Liz begs Eileen and tells her Tony threatened to kill her if she said anything and in the packed pub in a fit of anger and shock Eileen tells Liz that if Tony doesn't kill her, she will. The police don't believe Eileen's story however she vows to track Tony down and with the help of the police she tracks him down to a house in Chester and the police arrest him after he admits everything to Eileen, unbeknownst to him the police are outside in a van. Eventually, Tony is arrested, tried and is sent down for life and Jason leaves prison, disillusioned with life. I know it's a very heavy storyline, but I think something like this would work, what do you think? |

I think you should make clear in the title when a thread is a mere plot suggestion, rather than an actual development.

I think a massive storyline for Jason would be him actually leaving home. after all he is about 30, actually owns the flat attached to the builders yard and would get to play with Eva's funbags as much as he likes. Or is that just too ridiculous to contemplate?

I don't think Corrie needs another murderer.

Another murder involving a character being wrongly imprisoned? It's basically a rehash of the current Tina murder story...right down to the location and method of murder! Let's wait a good 4/5 years for another one of these plots. The show has exhausted itself with this type of storyline in recent years....
Finding it hard to swallow that Jason would discover his own brother was stealing from him and do absolutely nothing about it until the last second...that part is pretty contrived. I do like the fact that it involves some characters who are crying out for more screen time though (Eileen and Liz in particular!)

I don't think Tony would threaten Liz like that, let alone kill Todd
