I have been a techie for a long time and have set up my own TVs from new and connected and set-up my VCRs, PVRs etc.
However over the years I seem to have lost my nerve re doing certain things.
My current Sony KDL-42W653 Smart TV is about 7 months old and has developed error 5010 when trying to Refresh Internet content and, as a result I cannot now watch a Sony Entertainment App to which I have subscribed i.e The Berliner Philharmoniker and its archived and live concerts.

After many adjustments I have got my picture and sound just about right for the TV and the Humax and Pioneer DVD/HDD recorder inputs both on HDMI. All setting are noted down in detail in a special book that I keep for that purpose.
Apparently this error can only be eradicated by doing a Factory Reset which will reduce the TV to its original state as when I unpacked it last December.
I don't look forward to doing this due to my pathetic nervous state but realise it's the only thing to do if I want to watch these concerts on the TV rather than my laptops, tablets etc.
I keep on thinking of things that might go wrong such as the HDMI inputs not being recognised - quite irrational of course.
I also realise that setting up the picture on the TV and its inputs will be a doddle as I have all the settings noted down.
I need moral support really. Am I being unduly anxious or worried about doing a factory reset?

Yes you're been unduly anxious!

As you've got all your values written down, as you say, it will be a doddle to set it back how you like.

You are not the only one who has a special book for that exact purpose. I do as well....

Thanks folks for you interest and support. I'll have to be in the right frame of mind to do this an perhaps take additional Diazepam!

Have you tried turning your router off for 20 seconds and on again? Error 5010 would indicate that your TV can't connect to the outside world. It probably needs to be re-assigned an IP address by the router.

Did that last night. Anyway the lousy Internet browser provided with the Sony Apps works OK although it's tedious in its operation on a TV screen without a mouse and the network check button shows it is connected to the outside world, surely if the Tv's browser works OK?
I went through the WLAN set-up procedure again i.e finding my router and entering the wireless key etc and that went OK.

Yes so do I and I recognise the OP worries, ten years ago I would not have thought twice about a reset or connecting and trying something new now I am very timid about such things it must be a side effect of age.

No harm in contacting Sony customer support as it could be a portal problem. Sony Portal isn't that reliable in my experience, I sometimes have to use my Fox T2 and the Humax portal to get BBC iPlayer.

Sorry but I thought that I had back to you all on this subject. Last Monday I took the proverbial Bull by the horns and did a factory reset and everything returned to normal. I started about 8-30pm and finished it all by about 9-15. It was very easy really but I almost forget to switch off the dreaded Light Sensor that these TVs have and wondered why the picture was a bit gloomy!
Yes, it's fine now and I can enjoy my Berlin Phil concerts again

Yesterday I bought my fourth laptop now with that most Wins 8.1 OS - still I have already mastered that - just about.

Thanks but was quite aware of that article but the general consensus was that a reset was the ultimate solution and in my case it worked after just one go.
