I'd love to see this as it sounds like the early days of EastEnders were even more dramatic than that of Corrie.
The guy who plays TJ would make a brilliant David Scarboro. |

Well the Leslie Grantham angle would make it interesting, as would the drama surrounding the original actress who played Angie Watts being axed after filming her first scenes.
Not sure now is quite the time though, maybe wait for Eastenders 50th like they did with Corrie. |

You know what. The actor playing TJ should have been cast as Mark Jr. He is the double of the old Mark and has the Fowler look.
What a shame. |

A few years ago, he said he would return to write a reunion episode if Kat and Alfie ever split up, but he never did.

both Corrie and Doctor Who waited for their 50th, so EE should do the same.

I like EE but I don't think that the creation of the show would be that interesting a story. The thing I liked about The Road to Coronation Street was that it was set in the early days of television, there hadn't been many soaps on air before it and it was a battle to get it on air. It was an exciting process. EE on the other hand came along when there were multiple soaps on the air and the BBC commissioned it so there was no great drama to get it on air. The Leslie Grantham drama happened after the show launched rather than before it. A drama focusing on Leslie and Anita during the Den and Angie years would be a better angle I think. That way you can watch the show launch and follow how it eventually became huge and thrust it's two main stars into the limelight. Aside from EE, I think the creation of Brookside with it's at that time unconventional production techniques, would make a good drama or the story of the fiasco that was Eldorado.

The only other UK soap that would be worth a docu-drama about it's creation is Brookside. It's realism and success paved the way for Eastenders (although they largely dropped the realism part).
In fact, a more interesting docu-drama might be one detailing just how awful the show became from about 1995 onwards, when it became addicted to SHOCK! storylines. |

If the BBC were to create a show like this it would need to be based on the first two years.
EastEnders got off to a rocky start before it even hit the air, then as soon as it did broadcast it was plagued by many scandals. It was the birth of a love/hate relationship between the show and the press. It would be a good watch if done right. |
