"Love Child"... decent amount of early 90s airplay, but never charted?!
Just curious, but does anyone else remember hearing "Love Child" by Sweet Sensation (*) on the radio in the early-90s?
I remember it getting a fair amount of airplay, and it stuck in my head. Yet, when I looked it up a few years back, I was surprised to see that there was no sign it had ever even charted in the UK top 75, let alone been a hit. I'd have guessed it'd have been at least top 30. For some reason, I'm suspicious that it was Atlantic 252 (in their early 90s heyday) that were playing it. I can imagine it through their no-top-end LW signal- though my memory could be playing tricks on me- and it seems like it'd have fitted their style. Since Atlantic 252 also targeted the Irish market, was it a hit over there? Or were they just playing something they thought might be a hit over here (apparently it got to #13 in the US)? (*) It's a cover of a Supremes track, though I only found that out later. Also, I had to look up the band name, which didn't ring any bells. |
