Roaming Rip Off
I bought a 1GB data bundle for 30 days on Vodafone Turkey for 21TL which is about £6. I was quite happy with that but even more so when a text arrived with a notification that they have given an additional 1GB free. So 2GB of data for 30 days in Turkey for £6. Compare that with the cost to use the same amount on EE roaming with a UK SIM...... £16,384.00. EE charge £8 a MB in Turkey!
When will such rip off nonsense be stopped? EE can do better deals than a single consumer for sure so there is no justification charging UK customers the rates currently on offer. Same applies for calls at £1.69/min to make or receive. No wonder services like Facetime , Skype and Viber are finding favour. Shame on EE for such appalling pricing making customers devices useless in many areas of the world unnecessarily. |

Turkey isn't part of the EU but is a popular holiday destination for EU members. Its a nice little earner too not just for EE, other mobile networks have hefty data and call charges too.

Thankfully Vodafone UK customers can call, text and use data in Turkey at the same cost as any EU destination as they have revised their charges this year and not before time as Vodafone Plc own Vodafone Turkey (formally TelSIM) 100%..

As it stands also, to prevent bill shock (ie: getting a £16k+ bill for data using the example above), Orange now operate a £500 monthly cap on data roaming as of this month. Once the £500 is reached you can still access data but no further charges occur. With Turkey there is also the £6 daily bundle as well. Of course a local sim will usually always be cheaper... But most people (like myself) don't want to spend most of their holiday sim swapping. When I go to the Canaries, I just get a 500Mb add on for 7 days. Job done. |

Correct. It'll now be Dave in the Daily Mail holding up a £500 Orange bill looking sadly into the camera....
The link you sent .... She uploaded a "few" photos to FaceBook. Based on her bill she used approx 2.5GB of data there. That's more than a "few"... |

Less obvious perhaps is Switzerland - T-Mobile and EE class this as "not in Europe" and charge £1/minute. Orange (and most others?) include it in their EU rates!!!! |

You are quoting Orange pricing there of course... With EE 4G and T-Mobile have to buy a data pass beforehand which although still costly, is cheaper than £8/Mb.

So you rather pay the regulated per MB rate of 19.8p?
19.8 x 500 = £99 I know what you're saying but before the price revision it was £35 for 200MB. A local sim, like I say, is usually always cheaper but some people (like myself) don't want to continually sim swap - I get unlimited calls and texts in the EU anyway on my EE plan. |

The whole things a rip off, nearly all service providers are owned by a few companies, so why should me using T-Mobile, in Europe or America make any difference. The difference in cost would work itself out with visitors coming to this country etc.

I just paid €15 for 2gb data with a local provider in Belgium for use in a mufi. This let three of of us use the internet and we kept our own numbers.

Most other companies have reviewed their prices downwards since first of July, shame that EE couldn't do something positive to offset some of the negative publicity they are currently getting. I have one of the new 4g extra plans so get my texts and minutes included, like yourself, would just like to pay a reasonable price to get using my data without worrying about some inflated bill on my return. |

![]() Sadly not for her school trip to Iceland earlier where she ran up a small bill of £21 over three days. Jeff. |

. Did that in May when myself and three colleagues did some work for a week in South Africa. I bought an MTN data SIM on arrival at the airport. 1 Gig for 150 Rand (about 8 quid) All four of us tethered our phones to it. It was great; Whatsapp and email etc access, even used Google maps one morning for navigation in our hire car. Lasted the whole week, though the MiFi was reporting 1.11 GBs use as we stepped back on the plane to fly home, but was still working

Anyone know of cheap data deals in Spain?
I'm locked to Three and they don't have their feel at home thing there yet. Otherwise it looks like £5 a day for unlimited data.

does it say how long it will last, I would happily pay £25 for a gig if it lasted for at least two weeks. Don't fancy paying as much as £50 for the fortnight. How did you get the offer, was it when you tried to access the net did it come up. What plan are you on, is it an EE 4g plan. |

1GB valid for 30 days. I think the system is confused as I did a tariff change a day after my bill date and the plan I was on previously gives these special rates. I was not expecting to get the offer TBH.

Try and take a look at Digimobil, they use the Movistar network & offer some good data bundles.
I don't fancy filling forms out just to find a price either. |

I changed to a 20GB Extra tariff in January this year. No idea what my Extra includes - I think at the time it included EU + USA but I have no documentation saying that specifically. Would my Extra tariff still include the USA do we think?
Anyway, I'm off to Europe next week and was rather hoping to use the now withdrawn £3 for 100MB a day bundle, so I'm rather annoyed its been reduced to 50MB (even more so as it used to be £2 for 100MB in January when I went onto this tariff). I'll see what options I get when I get there. If it's £3 for 50MB then I'll be using Voda PAYG and getting 100MB for £2 with EuroTraveller. Just a shame I wouldn't be able to divert my calls to the Voda SIM as my EE divert functionality is buggered! |

Check on MyEE. If you are on a "4GEE Extra" plan then the preferential data rates apply (£2 for 100MB a day, 250MB for £12.50 for a week or 1GB for £25 for 30 days) If you're on an "Extra" plan then the special rates don't apply. If you joined the plan before April this year then you'll have the 4GEE Extra and USA use included.

The gig for £25 for 30 days sounds ideal, i would happily pay that.
I was in Tenerife in May and got a text when i landed giving the usual message about rates. I am on a 4GEE extra plan, got it in march so my texts and minutes are free. I didnt even attempt to connect to web other than using wifi as i expected it to be £3 a day for 100 meg. I am going back in September so will certainly try this time and see what the website states is the charge rather than the text message on arrival. Cheers I cant see those rates anywhere on their website or on myee |

They won't promote those special rates on the web as they are no longer available to new sign-ups.
