With only 16 episodes this season, I wouldn't put it past Fox airing this (largely) uninterrupted stateside. They have a lot of shows held for mid-season which have to go somewhere. I imagine Gotham will get the "Sleepy Hollow" treatment - bleeding into 2015 slightly due to baseball but then holding back for a bigger season 2.

If that is the case, C5 might get away with a complete block of 16. One thing I hope though, we avoid double bills. I don't know why channels insist on it. 2 hours is simply too long these days - particularly with most viewers watching with a phone or some kind of device in hand as a distraction - and the second episode usually sees a significant drop in viewership!

When people say there's a default BBC1 audience or that Death In Paradise only gets its ratings because nothing else is on. Remember this rating for In The Club.

Well obviously the 'default' audience aren't likely to watch everything on BBC1 as That Puppet Game Show and In The Club have shown.

In The Club for a drama title isn't exactly 'must-watch'

Ouch! Not a good start. Looks like STV may have took a few viewers off possibly, but even so, that's a good million lower than your typical Tuesday BBC1 drama, share a few points lower as well.

Might need to revise Bake Off down a few for tonight now...”

It was awful. More worryingly it might have put paid to any hopes I had of convincing Mrs Sykes we should have kids!

Though she seemed to enjoy it...

(The programme, I mean)

Great Ch5 pickup there with Gotham, can we expect a 3m overnight?

Ha ha.. Funny

There wasn't loads of publicity surrounding the show though was there. I don't know what else BBC one can put on in August, so good to see new drama going out and keen to see more, but theres no stopping launching all these new series this week. Won't people be away somewhere nice and hot and not even considering the box till "Strictly" returns

I don't see why. Different night, different time, different schedules, different programme genre, different audience even.

Disappointing start there.

To make any kind of return on Gotham, C5 need to show it a day after it airs on Fox.

However, I fully expect this to air in November or something, long after everybody who wants to watch it has wtched it.

It always amazes me that the TV companies complain about piracy, yet still insist on showing something weeks or months after it airs in the US. It's so antiquated. They have themselves to blame really.

May bring in a whole new audience that never watch channel 5 I think. Sounds like a ratings winner, but an expensive purchase.

No pressure on "The Great British Bake Off" tonight. It launched with its highest ever figure last year at 5.6!! I had no idea it started that well! Sure it will go even higher than that tonight, I think its a ratings banker and will be unaffected by low figures of July and this week.

"Utopia" on Channel 4 drops to 349k

And so it begins for The 21st Question.

Tipping Point got 1.65m beating The 21st Question.

Pointless and The Chase are the only two teatime shows that do really well; they need to think long and hard to try and match their success for a new show.

No, but it suggests viewers are taking longer to return to usual viewing habits, which may have a detrimental effect on Bake Off.

The STV debate peaked with 900k. The peak share therefore was probably around ~40% - Source: https://twitter.com/STVnichola/statu...45243783442432

Yes, just churning out one naff quiz after the other isn't going to work.

People don't like "quizzes" en masse, they like specific shows.

If 21st Q ends its run above 1m I'll be surprised.

I think the networks do try but they're so set in their ways with Pointless and The Chase that they don't like change. That's why even The Paul O'Grady Show, that used to own 5pm, couldn't make a dent in Pointless. It was gone too long.

I don't suppose BARB will pick up those in the rest of the UK who tuned into STV on Sky by typing in transponder details. We might get STV website hits but of course the website crashed.

900k is an excellent peak though.

Utopia you deserve so much more!

"@overnightstv: This week's #Utopia on CH4 at 10pm averaged 349k/2.1%, down on last week's 401k/2.4% http://t.co/Gu75jKfL7Z"

That's a good point. Some people like the quiz genre but most people like a quiz because they like that quiz. They won't always take to another show replacing they're favourite. When it comes to daytime quizzes it's Pointless, The Chase, Tipping Point then everything else.

These clashes seem to hurt EE more than Emmerdale
