To make any kind of return on Gotham, C5 need to show it a day after it airs on Fox.
However, I fully expect this to air in November or something, long after everybody who wants to watch it has wtched it. It always amazes me that the TV companies complain about piracy, yet still insist on showing something weeks or months after it airs in the US. It's so antiquated. They have themselves to blame really. |

There was nothing on TV the past month then everything comes back at once.

But this is how it always used to be over July & Aug, nothing on except repeats and fillers, and then the Autumn programming started to kick in on the first week of September. It's just starting a month earlier now. |

Something I didn't mention earlier about GBBO that will help it, despite it airing a whole two weeks earlier, is how well the last series timeshifted. It added on average 1.38m, with it adding 1.83m when it faced an England qualifier. So even if the overnight is a little disappointing it will likely make up for it in the officials.

Can't help but agree with you, it is totally mystifying. It's like when Sky Living axed Supernatural because of "low ratings". Well, if episodes originally transmitted in the US in September 2012 are going to be flung out on Living in July 2013 (ten months later!), then what do you bloody well expect!?
We don't know how lucky we are! ![]() Truly a different world! |

Quite a big gap between Emmerdale and EE this week and almost pushing EE to a record low. And even during the clash period Emmerdale pretty much kept all of it's audience.
This week is a golden opportunity for ED to get back on its feet, though, with no One Show on BBC One. |

Not surprised In The Club got such low audience figures. Who on earth launches a drama in August? It's like the BBC want this show to fail so that Kay Mellor can focus on The Syndicate!

Its a mistake starting things like GBBO a month early because people are still in summer mode of not watching TV.

Tuesday 5th August 2014 http://screenwatch.tumblr.com/
PREGNANT PAUSE Kay Mellor’s new drama for BBC1, In the Club, had its slot-winning launch on BBC1 at 9pm. The show features quite a starry cast that includes Hermione Norris, Katherine Parkinson (better known for her comedy appearances), Jill Halfpenny and Will Mellor (no relation to Kay), and delves into the lives of a group of expectant mothers who attend parenting classes, in preparation for their new arrivals. The audience of 3.98m (19.1%) perhaps unsurprisingly featured a slightly higher proportion of 25-34, and 35-44-year-olds than the slot benchmark profile, together with a much higher proportion of female viewers: 66.3% of the audience were female, compared with a benchmark profile figure of 57.6%. |

I disagree. What makes you say Under the Dome been treated badly? It remains a key part of the summer schedule and will be back very soon, more or less the same time it started last year.
Once Upon a Time was incredibly well looked after. Marketing on ITV for the launch, episode specific trails practically every week and the first season had big Disney film lead-ins most weeks. But the viewing figures dipped from the second season onwards and it was too expensive to be worth acquiring further rights. Viewers lost interest despite Five's very best efforts. Dallas was given every chance but after a very promising start became hugely disappointing, as it did in America. Admittedly it should have been pushed back to 10PM first before being ditched from primetime altogether. Person of Interest was mismanaged, definitely. I'll give you that one. The Walking Dead also to an extent in that the move to 5* was badly handled but it was no longer pulling in figures strong enough for the main channel. Sky aren't perfect, just look at how they treat new seasons of The Simpsons, supposedly a flagship show. Also ditched Supernatural despite perfectly satisfactory viewing figures. Five can bring Gotham to a much wider audience. And I expect it will be aggressively promoted right across the Viacom family. It will be very well looked after. Under The Dome needs to be broadcast much closer to US transmission IMO. That way it will minimise viewers watching the show by other means. OUAT did start well but did lose momentum fast in the second season. Not sure about cost but it timeshifted OK. If I was watching this show I'd have been angry what them just dropping it like they did. Dallas started well but faded fast, particularly in the second season which was fast tracked but moving it to 11PM meant it didn't have a chance. It timeshifted fine though. So why have C5 continued with this show after moving it to the graveyard slot?! Very odd decision indeed - when you consider OUAT was axed with better ratings. Person of Interest. It's hard to know where to start with this. I'm a fan of the show and watched all episodes at C5 pace. The scheduling for PoI has been atrocious. Started on a Tuesday night then took a long hiatus only to return to Sunday nights and then air at either 9PM or 10PM. The second season then moved to Thursday's and they decided towards the end of the run to show the programme as double bills meaning it wasn't finishing until midnight every week. And to top it all off, we're still a whole season behind American. This show has been treated terribly and a prime example of what I'm saying. As for The Walking Dead. Again poor scheduling, low ratings and then it shifted to 5*. Very badly handled. I'm not sure why they bothered with it when FOX show the first run anyway. Totally pointless buy for them IMO. So as you have said you disagree, none of the above screams US imports been treated well to me which is why I think Gotham would be best placed on Sky. Yes, they've made mistakes too (Supernatural - I totally agree with you and I'm a fan of this show), but Sky don't seem as ratings driven a C5 and are more likely to keep shows for all seasons in respectable slots that work. The same can't be said for C5. I watch alot of US imports on Sky and much prefer them. I'm not bothered if they get big ratings or not. They just need enough to continue whereas C5 will move things at the drop of a hat if things start to fail fast. See Dallas Season 2 after 2 episodes IIRC. |

Previous Bake Off launches
17 Aug 2010 - 2.03m (9.1%) * consolidated to 2.24m 16 Aug 2011 - 2.79m (12.7%) * consolidated to 3.10m 14 Aug 2012 - 3.46m (16.7%) * consolidated to 4.01m 20 Aug 2013 - 5.60m (26.4%) * consolidated to 6.60m Got a feeling that we could see a 7m average tonight/tomorrow morning. There's so much buzz and a lot of my friends on social media are talking about it. May be wrong though! |

A noteworthy one that hasn't been reported from last night, via Broadcast: Quote:
Don’t Tell The Bride (BBC3) 9pm-10pm http://m.broadcastnow.co.uk/5075963.article325,000 (1.9%) The first episode of the eighth series of the reality format shed half a million viewers from the previous series opener, which garnered an audience of 847,000 (3.8%). No idea what happened there. |

Didn't Emmerdale beat EE the last time EE had the advantage?
Most recent example: Thursday 3rd July 2014 7.00-7.30pm ED 5.54m, 33.1% 7.30-8.30pm EastEnders 5.54m, 29.3% 8.00-8.30pm ED 4.03m, 20.0% A bigger gap than last night, too. |

You don't have to pick me up on this eveytime I comment on an EE/Emmerdale clash. My post was completely factual. We all know for sure the roles will be reversed tomorrow.I was merely commenting on the increased gap between the two after looking back at previous clashes recently.
So, don't be surprised if the 7pm ED gets an unusually good rating on Thursday. |

http://m.broadcastnow.co.uk/5075963.article No idea what happened there. That being said, In The Club started lower than I thought last night. I thought it would have been good for 4.8m - 5m. Holby City looks low, with a low share as well. Isn't it closer to 25% share on a good day? I think Bake Off will still do completely fine tonight though. It's one show that I can see viewers flocking to. I did get overexcited with my prediction the other night of it hitting 10m but I do have a feeling in my waters that it will grow massively this year, and it will start with its highest ever launch tonight. |

No, I don't think an EastEnders episode starting at its usual time and completely overlapping an ED episode (also starting at its normal time) has ever failed to come out on top.
Most recent example: Thursday 3rd July 2014 7.00-7.30pm ED 5.54m, 33.1% 7.30-8.30pm EastEnders 5.54m, 29.3% 8.00-8.30pm ED 4.03m, 20.0% A bigger gap than last night, too. |

Watching GBBO for the first ever time properly tonight, we didnt used to watch because it was on BBC2. Seems quite good so far, I can see why it's appealed to the mainstream audience. Very female-friendly show though, not usually my kind of thing. Definitely will top the night in the ratings with 7-8million.

Bake Off is the first big launch of the new season - I think we could be in for some big numbers tomorrow morning. And on the subject of launches, the premiere of X Factor appears to have been announced by the back door - a US cable network has acquired the rights to broadcast the UK show... "AXS TV will broadcast the 34-episode series starting on Sunday, Aug. 31 — a day after the series debuts in the U.K. on ITV" http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...cowells-723767 Quote:
Channel5 have paid way too much for Gotham, that's almost as much as the Beeb pays for am hour of British original drama. They can't make a good investment with Gotham paying that much when the maximum audience it probably will get is 3m if that. If it flops like Agents of Shield, it'll be a huge flop for C5. Bad move imo, should've invested in home grown drama instead.
As it's only a 16 ep run they're slightly less exposed than usual with US shows (which typically do 22) but it's still a massive investment, one of the biggest for any channel on any new show in recent years. |
