Ken's Ratings thread Highlight of the week.......

More men watched it over the football last year didn't they?? BBC One having something top class on at 8pm on a wednesday makes the scheduled feel so much better. Should boost the 9pm slot.

We'll I have to admit I was worried about GBBO moving to BBC One, but in the end I shouldn't have been I really enjoyed it, it still maintain the same charm that loved about over on BBC Two. Plus it still made me as hungry as ever

Note that 34 episodes = 17 weekends.

17 weekends from August 30th is December 20th. Which is a week longer than last year, meaning that the live shows are also starting a week later or there will be more contestants.

Am not sure if you saw the trailer for next week, but don't worry that bit is back next week I think this was just them starting to find there feet, as Sue said you won't be joining us on our GBBO journey.

That would mean its final (the first half) will be on the same night as the Strictly final. That'll be interesting. Or could it just be starting on the 23rd instead of the 30th?

Did they have a history bit in week one previously? When there are 12 contestants?

Watching it now on iPlayer, easy to see why it is such a ratings success. Even if you don't like the contestants, you watch for the recipes etc.”

Definitely. The contestants get along, it's educational (though there wasn't any history feature tonight) and gentle.

Neither of you watched Bake Off until tonight? You missed out on all of that innuendo bingo!

No, it'll start on the 30th, same weekend as last year.

It's been blatantly obvious that it was starting on the 30th ever since ITV scheduled Star Wars to run for 6 weeks finishing on the 23rd. And Tipping Point: Lucky Stars also finishes on the 23rd.

The BBC has announced it will have 16 live FA Cup games this coming season on BBC1 plus increased coverage of women's football and a Sunday morning repeat of the Football League Show on BBC2 and MOTD repeated on BBC1.

Ok, then the finals clashing could lead to disappointing ratings for both X Factor and Strictly.

Wish BBC one had managed to persuade Mel and Sue to live "Strictly Come Dancing" would have preferred them to Tess and Claudia this season.

I would be very surprised if X Factor and Doctor Who started on the same day. Both shows would be competing for listings mag covers and newspaper space. X Factor starting a week later means it gets all of the magazine covers.

On the plus side, we can have a proper fight for the Christmas Number 1 this year as that will be revealed two and a half hours before the winner of X Factor.

Operation Wild still seems like an odd use of GBBO's lead in, but it was excellent and deserves to do well so hopefully it'll hold on to most of GBBO's audience.

Bake Off might have given Operation Wild a boost and helped it get a bigger rating than it would have done without the lead-in. We'll know tomorrow. But I think a Bake Off/Apprentice double would be a great launch night. I think they will be together on Wednesday nights eventually in September.

On Tuesday 27 August Bake Off out-averaged the full football broadcast (Arsenal v Fenerbahce in the Champions' League) among men (by 1.95m to 1.7m). Taking the head-to-head period only, it was very close at around 1.95m men each.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who would rather watch a tent full of people bake cakes than a pitch full of people play football!

Some potentially intriguing scheduling news from ariusuk up in the Broadcasting forum concerning The FA Cup...

If ariusuk's suggestion/hint turns out to be true (and he is an insider, so his comment holds more weight), then the question is, would the Monday night live FA Cup be live on BBC One or BBC Two?

If the answer is BBC One, then that has scheduling implications for EastEnders... I can't see BBC buying the rights to the cup then showing live games on BBC Two, that would be fairly pointless.
