Doctor Who used to be my favourite drama on TV during the RTD era. Only since Moffat took over have I started to fall out of love with it. I had high hopes for Saturday's episode. From the interviews with Capaldi and Moffat and the press push around it was positive, and the suggestion that DW will be darker. However the storyline was weak and let it down massively. The feature length aspect ruined it - having 40+ minutes build up.

I really hope DW improves from Smith's era. I want nothing more than to be excited for a DW episode each Saturday, not just watch it out of loyalty and find I'm dissapointed each time I do.

You are of course entitled to your opinion but as I have pointed out several times every series, every doctor, every showrunner etc cannot be liked by all. Personally I like Moffats DW much more than RTDs. I could give you a list of disappointing RTD episodes with weak to non existent storylines as well.

Too right, DW might get 6 million for its showing against TXF, but will probably add another 2 million on catch up. Also who really cares about old XF episodes, I doubt anyone cares now what happened in the first episode of the first series, but Rose is rightly seen as a classic and still has followers now. Reality type shows don't repeat, the sprawling nature of them makes DVD issues impossible, and they are rapidly forgotten when they're cancelled. However, shows like TXF do make a lot of money during their run and have provided ITV with some very good ratings, but it's true, it is instant television.

The Christmas Day episode in 2009 was all over the place and a few of the Tennant adventures didn't quite live up to the hype, but in the main Tennant was far better than Smith. However, there are millions of fans who love Smith's portrayal and a loyal band of Sly Mc Coy devotees, I watched a few of his adventures and they were quite good, but the scheduling against CS killed the series.

You keep on saying this, and I would again be totally against this. There's an argument in the national regions but absolutely not in the English regions. My region can barely fill half an hour at 6.30, no way they can do that at 10.30. And at a time when the average age of the BBC1 audience is under scrutiny for being too high, the last thing they need to do is shunt all the young-skewing programmes like Graham Norton back to later slots after 11pm to make way for regional news which skews older than everything else.

Yes, ITV used to have a lot of regional autonomy but the number of true regional shows were very small, most of the variations were films and imports, there were hardly any regional shows in primetime. The Beeb have Inside Out and various one-offs when there's a subject that deserves it but any more would be too many, most of the English regions don't have the facilities to do any more than they do now anyway.

A very young vibrant cast on "Strictly Come Dancing" Scott Mills is the latest. I think this new refreshed look will reinvigorate it , it s bound to attract new viewers who didn't watch because of Bruce. It's a new fresher look. The demographics may be wider on the programme this time. Some very good signings there.

Went away with 549,000 on ABC1 in 2012. Depends if they want to take the simulcast, instead.

I don't think the line-up will affect the ratings at all. Only the content or presenters might turn viewers off.

Do you know they just might. A girl at work never watches "Strictly" and hates it but she's gonna tune in this year because she loves TOWIE Geordie Shore and Celebrity Big Brother shows and hated Bruce. I guess she is just one person but wonder how many more TV viewers will feel the same. She's trying to get me to watch CBB because James Jordan is a classic contestant apparently, she says it the best series ever.

It's surprising how many people tell you they never watch soaps but they seem to know exactly what is going on in Corrie or EE

Bothersbar has the games/reality ratings up, but they look really iffy. The shares are odd as are some of the numbers. I find it hard to believe that CBB got the lowest of the series (BOTS almost equalled the regular show in share) and that the shares of Rinder and Tipping Point are correct, etc...

They will be correct. Numbers and especially shares fro daytime shows are always all over the place on Bank Holidays so I wouldn't read too much into them. Looks like there were more viewers about which depressed shares and boosted some shows more than others!

As for CBB, it was in a tough slot so that rating makes sense.

I think 9 million viewers is definitely possible.
