That said, it wasn't a terrible show. It had some shining moments. Infact, from episode 9 when Medusa became the snake headed gorgon, it really started to find itself. The end of the series was stronger, more flowing and more action packed. I am hoping series 2 follows on from where it left off and maintains the standard that it finally created at the end. A lot of people were unfair about Atlantis. No time was given to it. After 10 minutes of episode 1, posters were saying "crap, what the hell is this".
I'm not going to pretend that it isn't make or break for it this year. It has to at least match last year's ratings or it's out on its heels. But, the BBC can't afford to give up on Saturday night drama, especially as it seems that ITV are now taking an interest in it. If Atlantis is axed, they will need something else to replace it with. just relying on DW isn't good enough.
I'm not sure about Beuwolf. It is incredibly (God, I'm using Samuel's term) niche for a mainstream Saturday night drama. Jekyll and Hyde though should, if done properly, attract a decent audience.”
Depends what they do with it I suppose. its a very well known English fable and if executed right, might give ITV a very lucrative brand to sell worldwide.
What about something in modern Britain set in Scotland based on the myths of the Loch Ness Monster. Still continuing the theme of dinosaurs, a spinoff series or similar to Primeval, but tighter script and darker theme (Merlin type darkness.)
A crack in time has allowed a prehistoric monster to fall through into The Loch in Scotland. The reason its never properly been seen is because it can escape back to its original time zone. The main characters (research scientists) can fall through into the world of prehistory and myths of human fantasy and history.
Basically a combination of Primeval, Dr Who, Merlin and Atlantis.
